Message Board - Football: Football Pitch Irrigation
20 Apr 2009 by Mightyjimbob
Just a quick question about setting up an irrigation system for a football pitch.
We have currently got a traveler sprinkler and a couple of portable ones. Does a job, but by no means ideal.
I was just looking for a ball park figure for a complete irrigations system, we have nothing at the moment so would need a tank, pipes, irrigationn heads, pump, the full works really?
Has anybody ever paid for this sort of thing? What sort of cost are we looking at? Can it be paid for over a few years like machinery can?
Any help would be great.

It's hard to know what prices exactly without knowing and seeing your set up.

Hi, As Andy said it is difficult to provide an accurate cost without knowing specific factors such as the flow of your incoming water supply, what type and size your electricty supply is etc. etc. However, Ticky isn't far out on costs. A good system will cost about £35k (this is a system that has large pop ups around the perimeter and smaller heads in the in-field) and exceeds the minimum standards of the BTLIA, but if you take that further and start adding decoder controller, variable speed pumping stations etc. you can add up to another £10K quite easily. There are some finance companys who offer finance for irrigation systems but it is probably best to let your irrigation contractor sort that out as he should have sources for finance. If you need any further help or advice you ca contact me at www.irrigationcontrol.co.uk. All the best Phil.
