Hi
Is it possible to spread moss spores over the green when you have live moss by brushing.

Hi Arthur,
There is no reason to assume otherwise.... same as moss spores could also be spread by machinery and golf traffic.
Moss will only invade turf that is weak or open. i.e. shade, thatch, compaction, pests, disease, excessive wear, lacking in nutrients to name but a few..... implementing management practices to maintain a dense sward and strong root system, such as regular aeration will prevent moss from taking hold. The sarel roller is a good mechanical tool in this regard and growth regulators would be a good chemical tool, since it produces a more dense upright stand.

The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under who’s shade you do not expect to sit.

Apparently, Scotts are bringing out a new mosskiller soon.

Arthur - yes, I proved this to myself by brushing some mossy debris to the edge of the playing area after scarifying one year, which included a little loam and enough live material that the area it sat (while it rained for a few days) now has persistent moss. At least it covers an area where someone scattering ashes dropped the pot !
Moss is a problem only where moisture remains, because it doesn't have a normal root system. So a huge problem on fertilised, dense turf on ground which is packed or capped = my square.
I wonder if live spores are also carried in the loam/dressings we apply ?
Scotts new product Jewel is being tried, the first real moss killer since the old stuff got banned. Not sure how it is performing - they seemed to launch it and then go quiet again. It would be great to hear from people who have actually tried it ...
And if a new product/active ingredient has been approved it should not be too long before we have a range to choose from. Thank goodness, because as you say something which kills off the spores is vital on sports surfaces which are scarified etc.
