Message Board - Football: Vertidrain Pitch, how much?

23 May 2009 by Greenfingers

Can members give me a ball park figure on how much it costs to vertidrain one football pitch( midlands) without any travel expenses?

I need to check up what we have been charged in the past, the contractor is less than a mile away, but someone in the office told me about £700.
This figure will need to be confirmed and if it includes VAT.

A figure of £500 +vat+travel would seem fair to me, your thoughts very welcome.
TIA

Around £300 a pitch is max we have ever paid

500 seems very expensive to me! We are based in Cornwall and get it done for 250! The most i have been quoted down here is 450 including VAT.
We had our pitch vertidrained today.

Hope you find a good price!

Where exactly are you Greenfingers

We normally pay, £350 + vat.

£500-700 is well over the odds, I bet you can find a cheaper person pretty easily.

got my football pitch done @ £200 during the easter break with a well known contractor, they are not based to far from me in north west london, so no travel expense was included :O) service was good. however in the past, whilst working at other more well know 'establishments' i have been quoted around the £500 mark.

Note to all to try and explain, from the contractors view, the variation in costs:
Basis of any cost is dependant on number of factors, the travelling costs/distances, the number of pitches to be done in visit or alongside, occaisionally the soil type, how busy someone is, payment history and finally timing.
If you are in throwing distance of someone then the cost for them to get to you is minimal/negligable, if they have 2 or 3 other customers in the area to be done at same time then cost is split between them, if someone has to travel 200miles just to do one pitch then costs are probably a larger proportion of the whole than the actual job.
To visit one site and do 10 pitches will be far cheaper per pitch than doing 1, simple economics.....
If someone is flat out busy and you must have it done on Thursday by 11.00 this can also affect due to the 'juggling' involved, if you are flexible and have a 'slot' then it is easier for a contractor to work this in to their schedule.
If someone is particularly quiet for a few days then they will want to 'grab' the work and cost it accordingly
If its known to be a 'nasty' site in terms of machine wear this may possibly effect cost.
Not saying that it is relevant in this case but but as a generalisation some customers do take rather a long time to settle their invoices... sometimes this can be reflected in what you charge, we are not Banks after all....
Book the job well ahead and contractors can fit it into their schedule, especialy during the Spring' silly season', its mad at certain times of the year and a phone call saying you must have something done next week is not always physically possible....
Just a few resons why the rates above are over such a band......

Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!

I found out that we have been paying £480+vat, a bit steep but there you go, nothing like the earlier figure I had been told which got me posting in the first place.

Many thanks for all of your inputs to my original query, have a good summer:)
