Does anyone have information as to what the recommendations are for safety clothing / equipment that should be worn when using strimmers and fly mowers on a golf course
HSE don't produce a specific leaflet

The operators manual for each machine would be a good place to start.
You could/should also carry out risk assesments, and based on the conclusions of your risk assesments, you should have the control measures listed, which should include any ppe requirements.
As a general guide:
Safety boots
Ear defense
Head protection if working under trees etc
Face/eye protection
Arms and legs should be covered (no shorts, t-shirts etc)
No loose fitting clothing
Gloves
