Hi Adam,
You are already using the best.
I use it because having trialled a few varieties, at I may add a greater cost, MM50 was by far the best, giving good germination, coverage, wear and colour. Have to also add that it is thinning a bit in this weather. Also like you I did manage to get some straight cultivars from the company for trial.
Why the question?
Regards, Vic.

At the moment I'm using a mix from Bath.
Why ?, simply cos he offered it a the right price - and I've seen the results he gets with it.
I still don't know which seed gives me the best results here so I still be experimenting somewhat.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

I use MM50, because I was advised by my agronomist supplier.
I'm happy with the results and live too far from Bath to get his special brew, so why change?

although im no lomger dealing with cricket, in the past 9-10 years ive always used RT's R9 and a the end of last season i used R9 special...oh boy was that special, great germination, great coverage, great colour however as ive now left the club i cant comment on the wear and hunger of this mix..... however R9 was always a good mix for me and worked well with Kaloam,
Bath, whats this magic mix...... eye of toad, tail of newt etc
im now an ex groundsman but hey old habits die hard

thanks for your replies looks like a split between three supplers and baths mix the reason for asking was i wounded if people picked seed from the s.t.r.i list or just used what works for them it looks like the later and i do use mm50 plus some trail seed each year again because it works for us and i have trialed many others that did not work even though they were top of the trials list.

I use R9 up here as, during its development, it was trialled at the Cairngorm National Park to test for windchill resistance.
Being in the lea of the Grampian mountains this is an important consideration here.
Anyhoo........I have used MM50 at my last ground which was in the Scottish central belt with good results, however, the R9, at that time, out performed it in Aberdeen.
Now - I'll be the first one to admit that MM50 may have changed since then and may be ok here now, but it's the old story......better the devil you know!!
I know no boundaries.

Adam, 2 years ago when looking to change seed, I was given a trial bag of MM50, used it and had good results but because the cultivars came so low in the STRI booklet I decided to go with a brand that contained 2 of the top 3 cultivars. It cost a fortune and for me was an absolute disaster as I got very little germination and by May had 70% AMG. It was at this point that books went out of the window and experience took over.
Probably not a wise thing to say to someone employed in an educational establishment.

hi adam i m using BSH A5 tried it against RT R9, DLF,and barenbrug 2 years ago at various grounds which you use to play at, and have found it to produce colour, great germination, and when cut down produce a fine leaf and great recovery. price it was the cheapest, use to be a big R9 man did a lot of trials on it when i was at sussex but they changed the mix and found it not quite as good, dlf was weak to germinate and no end of red thread and fuzz.
cheers ross
