have you considered an ND or NC at a college in sports turf or if you have somthing equilivant to this a foundation degree or BSc. You can do these part time or full time. If this sounds interesting try Myerscough college in Preston. I have just finished a BSc there and they know their stuff.

thanks alot, im afraid i live quite far away from preston lol, i think the closest college to me that does that sort of thing is merrist wood in guildford

at the moment i dont know alot about the job or the courses only what i have read online about how to prepare pitches and what it involves but its something ive always been interested in. I will have a look for those courses nearer to me

thanks

Sam

Merrist wood are not running the foundation degree this year I believe but the best thing you could do would be to give the college a ring and see if you could talk to Philip Mayes he will be able to advise you on courses. I do believe thay have a few open days coming up too.

Good luck

You could also ask your local football club if you could spend a couple of days seeing how things are done etc to get an idea of how much goes into preparing a pitch.

Another option is looking at doing an apprenticeship on a golf course as it involves a wide range of maintenance practices and machinery which are pretty much based on the same principles of sports field maintenance. I know its not exactly what your looking at but it can be a good way of getting your foot in the door...

ok thanks, will send some emails off. Only problem is i have to arrange it around my current job. I may speak to a few semi pro football clubs that are local to me and see if i can assist the groundsman
