Message Board - Machinery: Graden VS Hollow tine

Has anybody used this machine to remove thatch on their greens? was thinking of hiring it in, insted of hollow tining!. any thoughts or experiences grateful.

We used a Graden a few years ago as I firmly believe in using linear aeration rather than conventional hollow tining. It does an incredible job but it is a pain to clear up. We have used a Koro Field Top-Maker for the last two years instead and I think this is a much better way to go if your greens are relatively flat. There is either a side elevator to drop into a vehicle or a collector can be attached to pick up as you go along.

It can look a bit scary but we have had very good results from this work.

The answer is None more black.

Another altenative to get over the 'clear up' is the Sisis TM1000. Does a simiair job to a Graden but has a collector box. I have heard of the TM1000 being available for rent in certain areas - I think Mario hires one in for his cricket squares (?), so it might be worth checking into the availability of one on your area.

For cricket squares we have used a Billy Goat vacuum collector

Thanks guys, i have decided to go with the SISIS TM1000! only prob does anybody know were i can hire one in the wiltshire area?
