the football club i look after have just added another pre season game at home , thats now six friendlies on the main pitch before the season starts ,
so not only are the secretary and the manager telling me how to prepare the pitch , they will now want it looking like wembley week in week out throughout the season after ruining it in pre season .
ho hum who would be a groundsman hey .......................

one bright spot been invited to attend the groundsman of the year awards at saltex , so who knows might have won something ....................................................................

They must have lowered the standards this year as we've been invited to attend the groundsman of the year awards at Saltex as well!

We are Fair Oak & Horton Heath Parish Council, near Eastleigh, Hants, so we are at the bottom of the pecking order, so I'm guessing we aren't rivals.

Unfortunately I will be in a Cypriot bar sipping a cold beer or two, but my groundsmen and possibly my parish clerk will be there.

Have you been to one of these do's before? Should we prepare a speech in case we win? It sounds quite posh, a suit & tie job. Any inside info would be appreciated having never been before.

Where are you based & at what level?

Looking at last years pics it's a suit & tie job, but it would be nice to hear from others that have been there before.

Good luck & lets hope we both get the top prize.

"nut250" Back to your post.
This is unacceptable and unnecessary and strikes a chord with what I/we had at a previous club. I went there in Spring and in July my colleague showed me a list of friendlies the Football Sec' had given us. It was similar to yours and I think they might have played them that year, can't remember but after that they had two, one each for the first and second team!
They even had players from other clubs mixed in to give them a "run out" as well!
The footballers thought that they had a divine right to play just when they liked as it was their club and it was our job to accommodate them.
We spoke with the management committee and informed them that we were not going to allow it again and they backed us. We had Rugby (on the Football pitch) so they wanted friendlies as well. This was on top of Bowls and Cricket.
Say NO now or you will end up a nervous wreck!
