Message Board - Natural Turf: Sand for divots

2 Aug 2009 by Mark Jones

is there any disadvantage in just filling divots with 100 % sports sand? I would normally mix with soil but the top soil down here is rubbish and the good stuff is expensive.

The less sand the easier the divot mix will dry out. It is best to purchase a 80-20 or 70-30 mix ..... your choice, which isn't much more expensive than purchasing straight sand. Shop around.... there is a competitive market out there!

Welcome back Ken, a few of us were starting to worry. Glad to see you are still well balanced and supplying quality advice.

Personaly I use a 50:50 mix of sand and re cycled green waste. Not sticky and also does not dry out too quickly. The price is not too bad either at about £32 per tonne.

Thanks Ascott, I was on a Red Sea dive safari. Blue sky every day, with 35c. on deck and 28c. at 40 metres below deck!

Very enjoyable.

But sadly, now back to reality tomorrow.
