Message Board - Bowls: End of Season modifications

Being a Greenkeeper at a Crown Green Bowling Club I often get the comments from members that the green is to easy for opposing teams, so it has set me thinking what I can do to make it a more difficult green, Apart from the contraversial use of a "Whacker" can any one suggest a less drastic way of doing this?

Well aljos you should be proud that you have a good quality green that all can read , as for making it more difficult i am not sure how you are going to achieve this , do the away teams not enjoy bowling there , or should i say the winning team

Now as for the use of a whacker , whats that ?

I am cricket myself but did play bowls, I thought bowls in a playing sense was similar to cricket ie good players can perform on any surface are your members making excuses.

You could always try a couple of Windmills on the green it works on the crazy golf.

Sorry aljos

First rule for any bowling greenkeeper - don't listen to the members!

As for this problem - tell them that if they got their bowls nearer to the jack than their opponents, life would get a whole lot more difficult for the visiting teams!

"I'm cheap, and nought but fashion; fling me away."
