Message Board - Natural Turf: Depitox weeds

does anyone use depitox for spraying football pitches? I am just curious because i can get 5 litres for 12quid as opposed to 80quid for greenor.

I haven't used Depitox personally.
Rather than looking at the cost per litre, work out the £ per hectare, as this will give you a better reflection of the total outlay. To do this, find the dose rate per hectare - say 2.5 l/ha for example. Then divide the cost of the bottle by the dose rate, so if your Greenor cost £80, divide this by the dose rate (2.5 l/ha), you would be looking at £40 per ha. Do the same calculation for Depitox, or any other herbicides that you have in mind, and find out which one is the best value for money.
You also need to find out what weeds you are looking to control, and check that any potential product will control the weeds that you have.

also look at when you want to use it and when you will want to overseed, see if the two operations can be compatible based on your needs.

Depitox is a single active herbicide containing 2,4D.
This wouldn't cover the range of weeds as the multiple active products, such as Greenor would, but If you're on a budget it's worth considering.
Perhaps first identify the weeds you're trying to control then select the chemical to suit.
A good pitch chemical would be Headland's Relay.
5ltrs/Ha, £35-40 per can.

Can I ask where you're buying your chemicals from at these prices as they seem a lot cheaper than pitchcare.

Hi Pasty,
Depends how many Sam is buying - as with all products we do offer bulk purchase discounts, and discounts to our account customers too who regularly order off us. It's difficult to offer undercut prices on-line as this would upset other distributors. Please ring for a competitive price.

Pasty, the prices are quoted from a local farmer who i guess buys in bulk. He uses depitox on alot of outfields. Mind you he charges 112 to spray if he supplies depitox. or just 100quid to spray, if i supply the chemicals like greenor. But to be honest i have had such good results with greenor i think i will stay with that, even if expensive. I was just curious of what results people have had with depitox. The farmer said after using depitox it has provided mixed results on outfields.

i use a tank mix of depitox and agritox....especially as a lot of my work is pasture and paddock weed control.. this mix takes out ragwort at the rosette stage too...works well on my football pitches and cricket outfields too, and i did my polo ground with same stuff....
Ticky supports British farmers...!!
