Message Board - Other Sports: Pitch hire costs
26 Sep 2009 by Mike
Hello all,
Would anyone be kind enough to give me approximate costs of the hire of the following facilities:
Football pitch per match
Rugby pitch per match and hourly
Grass Wicket (both evening and all day matches)
Artificial pitch per hour (both half and full pitch rate)
Many thanks,
Mike

Alot depends on what facilities are you also offering..Will you have changing rooms, Showers..What standard or grading the ground is..Is everything done for the person hiring it
Our football ground is hired out and the cost can be upto £150 a match but this is a ground graded at Step 4 with all facilities the availble to the hirer
I also know of school cricket pitches with the use of Pavilion and Showering etc cost £200 per match

Thanks for the input, Stephen.
Changing and shower facilities are inclusive in all lets, and everything is prepared by us. Refreshements do attract an extra charge - this is dealt with by a different department.
The standards of all of the pitches are good. I can't really give an equivelent grade for our facilities as we do not operate that system in my area.
The gist of things is that I have a meeting with our bursar on Thursday (dependent on some other commitments), regarding the use of our facilities, and the logistics of the hiring out of the said facilities. It is an area that has needed attention for a long time now, and it appears that this meeting will be the start of a thorough appraisal of our 'letting' system. I don't want to go into this meeting 'cold', so I will be preparing a report over the remainder of the weekend, which will include what costs we incur preparing the facilities, and the impact that the amount of 'lets' has on our workload. I would also like to add in what we currently charge for the usage of our facilities, and what alternative venues charge for the usage of their facilities, hence the original question.
Thanks again.

Hi Mike, We have a sliding scale of charges the cricket ground costs £300 for a sunday match and £50 for a mid week game because we have to have a man on duty during the game. Football comes in at £55 and hockey on our artificial £60 all includes changing rooms and showers but no food although this can be arranged. WD

I know that when I used to look after pitches in a school environment I was told that the cost reflected the publicity gained in visitors coming to the school and using the facilities over the actual cost of the facility. but we charge 120 for a football pitch and 130 plus food for a cricket pitch - changing facilities included at our club.
Geography is everywhere

Interesting point Mal, and one that I had failed to consider. I'll add that to my report.
Many thanks,
Mike

Mal, makes a good point but we use to hire out football pitches for ten pounds until the bursur was told how much it was costing the school especially as we had to put ropes around the pitches and lost several nets over a season. Funny thing is the club soon found somewhere else to go . Ian

in our area the council charge £44.50 a pitch and all you get is changing rooms, pitch and nets (you put the nets up yourself)
at our club we charge £50. for this you get a pitch that is level 7 standard, changing rooms inc showers, nets put up and taken down for you. this then gives you more time to spend in the fully licenced bar (most important facility) with sky tv and pool table. food can be arranged
yes its cheap, but then again we have clubs cuing up to use our facilities on a sunday so it never unused plus we take plenty over the bar.
night games with all the trimmings plus floodlights and food for 40 people will cost you £120
im now an ex groundsman but hey old habits die hard
