Any one catch the interview with Robert Key & Mark Robinson yesterday? Key has to be the most disliked guy in cricket amongst ground staffs, whilst Robinson gave some interesting views regarding the Hove pitch and how teams use home advantage.

Anybody see our leader on the Geoff Stenning show on Sky last night. Very polished John. Good to see your old team mates Kenny Hibbit and Mike Bailey looking well.
Sorry Vic, ni i did,nt.

Mate have you had a problem with key in the past?, i'm a big fan. By the way how shocking was the Johannesburg pitch for the one-dayer, the bounce was so in different.

Who is Mark Robinson - the guy who just got "the most successful county of the last decade" relegated ? I vote Caddick as the most disliked player by groundsmen, what a sneer !

The industry should tackle Key head on - invite him in for an interview, commission him to do a review of poor pitches and why he thinks they were wrong etc, what we should do different etc

This is how Hockey dealt with Ian Jennings, the respected player but highly vocal critic of umpiring. They paid him to review umpiring mistakes at the World Cup, and suggest an improvement programme - he did, it was quite helpful actually, and it shut him up.

So what was Key saying?

Proberly asking the sussex coach whether he fancied a curry later!

Mr Key apparently doesn't like playing on what he refers to as "park pitches". He believes there should be harsh penalties for those clubs who produce poor pitches (but in who's opinion would that be?) Doesn't like the idea of a rec side replacing Ireland next season as the pitch will be as bad as the horror he played on in Scotland this season.
Add this to what he has said in recent seasons about Durham and other pitches and he is doing quite well.
Robbie, I politely asked him the other morning which roller he would require to which he grunted and let the coach answer, nice bloke. I also rate him and had him opening for my fantasy team.
Small wonder he never got the test matches that his quality deserves.

So its just not the weekend cricketers who know all about it then?

On that point, I love it when the "expert" ex-cricketers give their pitch reports which nearly always are wrong. I mean, does anyone really know how a track will play until the play starts?

Ive seen and played on some horrible looking wickets in club cricket that actually have played ok.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Actually Barry, I couldn't disagree with him that much regarding our ground.
Think his points were sound, just doesn't put it across that well.

Mr Key - "Doesn't like the idea of a rec side replacing Ireland next season as the pitch will be as bad as the horror he played on in Scotland this season."

Scotland 80 for 1 from 14 overs. Doesn't sound like a "horror" to me? Hmmmmm!

I know no boundaries.

Wasn't it Mr Key getting on his soap box about Durhams pitch a couple of years ago.

As a man of kent i feel i have to defend Rob Key he is a good man just not a great judge of wickets very few are having worked with many although vince wells is a good one . And we all know low scores are never batsmen fault. WD

Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!

DSCN0073 1 Oct 2009 by Vic Demain

Mario, this is a man who could find fault with every ground and is too willing to give his opinion.
WD, Kent made 645 at my place and won by 10 wkts - it was still the worst pitch he had played on, so not just low scores.

Ok Vic. We do know that some cricketers would never be happy Maybe its the water around here . Wd

Well guys, further developments.
It appears the County captains have had their say and a meeting is being held this week to discuss bringing in penalty points - in the LVCC - for sides producing the benign, sterile pitches which have been seen across parts of the Country this year.
Think the groundstaff's are onto a hiding here. Why not go back to the raised seam? Oh yeah, the captains don't like it.

autoroller.bmp 1 Nov 2009 by pacman75cricket

Bring back uncovered pitches they would love that.

Wouldn't they be better off encouraging positive cricket rather than penalising pitches for being too batsmen friendly or the opposite

1 Nov 2009 by barry glynn

Bring back the raised seam? Yeah Id go with that. What with free hits, power plays etc in the limited over game, its always been a batsman game now it is slanted too much in their favour.
But the groundsman cant win whatever they do, almost at any level.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

I've always found Rob Key to be pretty approachable.
