I don't want to come across as condescending, but you need to use an approved chemical. Adding glyphosate to your marker could land you in serious trouble, irrespective of what qualifications you may have.

Finale is an additive that is approved for this type of task, and is available in the pitchcare shop. Preline is another product that is already mixed, and works very well with a transfer wheel marker - if you are using duramark, a call to your rep might be worthwhile.

With the two products that I have mentioned, there really is no excuse to be adding glyophosate to a marker, and I say this as someone who has seen the fallout from marking with an unapproved product (creosote) first hand - believe me, it isn't worth it.

Cheers for advice Mike A. I was going to use a small amount of Gallup Amenity which contains Glyphosate. I will proberly ask around for more advice on other products.

What is the legal status if the glyphosate were not mixed with the marker paint but instead applied separately over the lines?

That's a bit of a grey area. Technically, you could apply using a weed wiper or similar under the pa6 qualification, although finding the correct dose rate would be difficult.

The coshh assessment should flag up an issue though, whereby other, potentially more suitable options should be considered before deciding on chemical application. On the coshh assessments that I use, I have to list three alternative products/methods. If I were to put glyphosate, preline and finale on the assessment and chose to go ahead with the glyphosate, should an incident occur, I would imagine that I would be viewed in a very dim light.

Hi Villager,
I use 10ml of a glyphosate containing herbicide in ten litres of paint to mark one pitch. You are fine to use with your paint as it is only like tank mixing 2 chemicals and your pedestrian marker is covered by your PA1 and 6. As with any spraying follow the instructions on the product data sheet, dont use it ten minutes before kick off . Mike preline is a paint mix containing glphosate and was approved for use without holding a spraying certificate. Iwas lead to believe this was due to the product coming ready mixed and containing a very small amount of active ingredient i.e. a very weak solution. There is nothing in the coshh sheet to suggest any problems using a glyphosate containing product, are you sure your not getting mixed up with some of the chemicals which used to be used for this purpose.
