Message Board - Cricket: Rain At Last
6 Oct 2009 by paul kelsey
Got a nice drop early this morning then at 4 this aft got a deluge for 45 minutes most of the field was under water, left the barrow out there was about 40mm in it when it stopped, might see some progress with the topdressing now.

Saw most of my £140.00 worth of seed and kilos of top dressing washed to the edge of the square today, not seen a deluge like it since Noah was a lad, still time for a second go.

Fingers crossed some nice warmth in the ground for good germination.

Mine all finished a week last Sunday. All visible now without having to get on your hands and knees to see it. 8/9 days, no germination sheets.

Oh lucky you, half way across the bowling green when the belt went on the truespread, still got both squares and tennis to dress. Bugger off rain!!

Dressed 11 wickets by hand lucky you with top dresser mate.
Forecast not seeming good may just get the edge of the rain forecast today.
Sounds like south coast will get most of it.

Chucked it down here in Surrey for 2 days, today cloudy with a little drizzle. Tomorrow meant to be sunny all day. First signs come up overnight but not much after 9 days. Still got sheets on over ends, taking them off on Friday and then got the job of finding those effing clout nails! Ah well ,live and learn.
Think I may have gone a bit too deep with the Graden but what with the break down I had with it and it being so dry I wanted to make sure I was going in ok. So my seed bed was quite deep so the seed has got a far way to come through the loam.
What do I do? I just cut the grass.

I did make you an offer Vic. It would have all been finished sometime during last weekend.
Mine is only up because i had the sprinkler on all day every day from the Monday to Thursday. This rain is now the iceing on the cake.
Probably have to mow it next week.

Change that drizzle to hissing down! Worm casts coming up a treat today on end wickets that are colts ones made from outfield basically.
What do I do? I just cut the grass.

bath
Please try not to mention any sort of mowing until Barry has found his effing clout nails.

Gordon, you and many others thanks, but you can only lead a horse to water!!
7 Oct 2009 by Grassman2011
Thanks for that Robx. Just need them to pay up now.
8 Oct 2009 by jlawrence
Gordon, The cheque had better be with you shortly - if it ain't then there'll be hell to pay.
I'm not the only one who think's you've done a rather spiffing job - it's been echo'd by everyone I've spoke to who know's what the square has looked like over the past 2 years.
If you've not had payment soon then I'll happily pay you out of my own pocket.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Bloody expensive though !!

I had the opposite experience this year. I often chop up 5p and 2p pieces cutting the Outfield (especially after colts training), however this day I managed to stop before one as it caught my eye. Turned out to be a gold sovereign worth about £170 (and rising every day!). And nobody claimed it. Hurrah.
9 Oct 2009 by Nifty
There's a moral there somewhere isn't there? That sovereign has got to be a better investment than any bank at the moment
Its got to be purrrfect

Stick it back in the ground trubs and see if you can get it to grow like in the Barclays ad (But beware the frost dosn't get to it)
Geography is everywhere

Had the same experience with 2 and 5p's even ten bob's sometimes, but a gold sovereign, on the outfield, bloody 'ell trubs there must be some well to do members at your place and who carries gold sovereigns around? and then doesn't miss 'em when they lose 'em! meks Barrys clout nail look dead ordinary.
9 Oct 2009 by trubs
I couldn't work out who would carry one around with them either. I reckon it must have been off a necklace or something. I also found a 1946 sixpence this year, which made my day as I remember feeling very rich if I got one of them as pocketmoney.

I find plenty of pound coins, but only after the tri king has chopped them in half!
