Message Board - Machinery: possible replacement of mark 4 blades with tungsten tipped

10 Oct 2009 by barry glynn

I have a Sisis mark 4 scarifier and was wondering it is would be possible to fit the mark 5 tungsten tipped blades on to my mark 4?

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

I keep meaning to get a couple and find out if they'll fit.
My thatch removal blades have the star shaped center, which appears to be the same (though I've not measured them) as the tungsten tipped ones.
If I remember I'll be taking my thatch reel upto Harrogate and I'll find a rep with some blades in his car and find out once and for all if they'll fit.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Cheers Jon
Its just that I am fed up with paying £150 for a scarifier that breaks down each year, dont care if I have been unlucky, still doesnt help me.
I know my Sisis mark 4 has not got a lot of oomph but Im thinking if the conditions are not too hard ( this September was an exception), I could maybe use my Sisis if I could have a tungsten tipped blade reel put on.

Then I may be able to do some of the scarifying over a few days using the box on it.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Hi all

fitted tungsten tip blades to our sisis mk 4 for this seasons renovations , have covered 2 to 3 passes on bowls greens . And 7 greens done so far ( 1500 sq mtr per green, per pass ) , and they are still very good and only showing slight signs of wear on the very tip. very impressed so far .

Got a set myself a couple of years ago. Not enough oomph in the machine to make them work on my squares. Can see them working on a bowling green though.

Hi bath

Change the pully on the engine output , and fit an s p a ( kevlar) belt from a belt supplier .

Mine goes in now over 20 mm and with no rain since the end of august working well past what it has done last year . at only 10 mm last year , its like a new machine .

The other thing i do is to adjust the drive cable so that it slips slightly so the forward speed is slowed down . may get through a drive belt the time i have finished , but i am not bothered at a few quid on that one . also the tungsten tip blades stay a lot sharper so less friction to the machine and less man hours changing them over .

A s p a belt gives you over 50 % more power over a std belt , this with belt spray is working a treat .

Hi Gents

the blades i ordered were sisis 1.6 mm hooked thatch removal blades part no F 37057.

These were ordered via rigby taylor so i am sure they put a bit on so take this as a guide price only , i paid 10.95 each plus vat delivered and 24 blades to the reel .

You could also try steve at campey turf care as he is most helpful .

The other thing to consider when you are looking to order is the width of the blade , the wider the blade the better the seed slot , if you do not have an over seeder . But the wider the blade the less depth will be achieved .
