Message Board - Machinery: What performance should I expect from my SISIS TrioRotorake

11 Oct 2009 by philipfish

Hi All
I have a SISIS TrioRotake which I have had for the last three seasons.

This year, despite having a well watered tennis court during my end of season renovations, the machine was unable to penetrate deeper than a 2-3 mm. The Thatch Removal blades are in good condition, being only a season old.

The main problem appears to be the the "dog clutch" kicks in as soon as the going gets tough. Is this normal with this light machine or should I expect to get in deeper.

Should I try tightening the belts or try a new pulley?

How deep does your Trio penetrate?

Philipfish I have one if these at one of my cricket grounds, I usually water before any renovation work and get down to about 4mm without any real problem, the original engine expired at the end of last season and I had a 5.5hp Honda fitted, I have also had to replace the clutch I have no problems with the clutch since, you have said yourself that it's a light machine and of course you have to push it, I don't know the original spec and intentions for this machine but I wouldn't have thought it was meant to go much deeper than about 4mm to 6mm anyway, if I really want to get stuck in I use the tractor mounted Huxley.

I have one of these and I only find it any use for preparing a pitch. It too stops when the going gets tough. 2mm max so I live with this and this year hired a 600 from our cricket board.

I bought a brush from UKBRUSHES for about £65 and fitted it to the Trio to clear out the grooves which it did very well. I think this brush is going to be brilliant when preparing pitches next season.
It takes about 2 Min's to swap from blades to brush.

I would recommend buying the brush.

Tungsten,

The advantage of the Graden is the Tungsten tips on the blades.

This machine will rip through the top, more robust.

Chris I would say it's got more use than just pitch prep, theres pre season scarifying and I also have the verticut reel, another worth while buy, the brush is brilliant for sweeping the whole pitch after a game and adjucent pitches as well, getting rid of debris and therefor helping to stop thatch at source at if where, I have also used the brush through the winter to pick up leaves and other deris and also to sweep due off and keep the sward standing upright, as for renovation work I have to say with carefull watering I can get 4mm without any real problem.

Having taken the side panel of my Trio I remember that the cutting unit is driven by a chain, rather than a belt (as on the Autorake), and therefore belt slip is not my problem.

Does anyone know how I can verify that the "dog clutch" is functioning properly? I put a new one on a couple of seasons ago.

Phil
