Message Board - Pests, Weeds and Diseases: Moles - worm repellents don't work?

We've had moles this year on one part of our outfield. I've been trying traps, with a little success, but I've also tried worm treatment. About a month ago I sprayed a band about 8m wide from the fence on the left of the first picture.
The attached photos show the ground this morning. I have to conclude that the worm treatment has worked against the casting worms (picture 2 shows no casts on the treated area, but picture 3 shows lots of casts on untreated areas. Picture 1 shows mole hills all over the area treated for worms.
My overall conclusion - worm treatments reduce casting worms, but do not repel moles. The size of the hills suggest to me that the moles are working fairly deep, presumably munching non-cating worms.

An untreated area of outfield a few metres to right of treated area - cast city!

Yes - the outfield could do with a trim, but with that many worms casts I have to wait for a dry spell.
FYI. Soil pH ca. 8. Well drained, decent loam on top of shallow limestone base. Outfield is village playing field and not a professionally prepared surface. Grass species are what is naturally there.

Sorry it does not work for you Jon. Applying carbendizum to areas that have mole activity has always worked for me.
Perhaps the soil deeper down is still to dry and the worm treatment has not got into the soil.
I will only start treating worms this coming week as i believe the soils are now wet enough for good results.
I could be talking a load of buncum again, but as i said earlier, it works for me.

Jon, Try putting moth balls (the ones you get from hardware shops and not moth balls) down the runs, had a problem with them for around a year tried everthing until a member told me about them put several down a active run between mole hills and had no sign of them for 6 months or so.
