The hand of frog,

Its long overdue !!! and maybe this might just convince the people in charge !!!

You were robbed, although i must admit when the maradona incident happened all those years ago, i was watching the match in a pub in south west of Ireland, and i do not recall a lot of sympathy at the time :)

Without a doubt it should be used in any disputed call. I bet a lot of claims for free kicks would stop if they could be checked on video. Even if after the game it is seen someone cheated to get a decision they should start the next game they play with a yellow card.

Brian,

I bet your still sick.
As an Englishman, with an Irish wife who lives in Paris, I had alot of interest in the game. If there was ever a time for video technology to be used it was after last night. I thought you looked the better team and fully deserved NOT to go out like that.
I suppose with Platini as UEFA president, his rejection in the past of using such technology paid off last night, as L'equipe du France went marching through, after what I thought was a woeful performance on home soil.

Knowing many French people, they are really still not happy with Domenech and the team. Himself and the players have been roasted in the French media today. Why he didnt bring Benzema on at some point last night is beyond me....thats what the French hate about him, his strange decision making.
Alot of my guys have said today that Ireland merited qualification, so fair play to them on that note.

BUT.....if the shoe was on the other foot and England had gone out to a controversial goal like that , I know all of my inlaws wouldn't have been able to help themselves in ripping me to pieces and they would have shown very little sympathy :-)

C'est dommage mais, c'est la vie!!!

Regards
Dave

I like Chris's idea with the yellow card for the next game, as for Henry, will his reputation be forever tarnished as Maradona? I know stakes were high but that was a despicable piece of cheating from him last night, he should be ashamed, but I bet he's not.

Has anyone seen the new Mastercard commercial? It goes a little something like this......

A French beret 10 Euro, a croissant while in Paris 2 Euro, an Irish scarf 6 Euro, A match ticket 60 Euro, A match programme 8 Euro, watching Thierry Henry play Gaelic Football with the Irish.....PRICELESS!!!

Sorry Brian, I'm only messing about lol

I dont know if i agree with the call for a replay is wise and the interfearence from our TDs (MPs) is out of order "politics and sport should not combine".
But it really shows how two faced FIFA are with the bulls**T fair play rubbish they have talked about. They havent even reported the hand ball on their own website.... Bid business has just won again.

Unfortunately them rules is them rules, unfair as it seems, if the ref and lino didnt see it they cant give a free kick for it, its as simples as that...should they have seen it is another question, angles and players in the way? who knows... BUT the refs decision is final and once play restarted it can not be gone back on, can you imagine the carnage that would occur every week if the rules changed although a 10 second video review in the higher levels would definately give a bit clarity and credibility back.

I do have every sympathy with the Irish team, but we have been stitched up before in very similar scenarios by an officials lack of eyesight or line.....

But as a referee you can not give a foul, handball, free kick or penalty unless you or a lino has seen the offence, whether it occurred or not, you have to be certain...

Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!

For matches of this importance and the knock on effects on business , trade and the local economy etc unquestionably there needs to be a change here , it seems to work for rugby so why not football matches of this calibre. It was grossly unfair , and how do we control flexible Fergie (extra) time as well ?

If the French FA had anything about them they would have offered to replay the game , sadly it seems they don't. Merde all round.

Why are people surprised that football organisations and countrys won't play fair its a win at all cost sport money is the most important thing, all the time that is the case then football will suffer.

Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!

To be honest with you all I'm sick to the back teeth of how the British Press have been towards France as a Nation following this whole saga calling them cheats, the dirty French etc etc.

Interesting to see this afternoon that Henry has apologised this afternoon and called for a replay of the match.
I would love to see this game replayed in fairness, whether this is likely to take place it would solely be a UEFA decision...and I dont think it will happen.

One of my lads is a huge France and Marseilles fan and is absolutely gutted that France went through in such a manner. He even stated to me today that its an absolute disgrace and he has finished with it all after the game. He told me for 15 minutes prior to the game at le stade de France there was announcements etc all promoting fair play etc and then Henry put them through in such a way.
He even said that there was a really bad atmosphere after the goal had gone in once everyone found out that a handball was involved!!! You dont hear about this in the biased British press do you???

I see that Blatter and Platini are not interested in bringing in video technology and would prefer to have an extra 2 official involved in matches at both ends. IMHO Video technology needs to happen sooner rather than later, as football is such big business.....one person who will be smiling today though is Domenech (french head coach) as he has today received an 800,000 euro bonus for taking France to South Africa according to the press here in Paris.

Funny old game aint it?

yes ireland were cheated. But sh1t happens. Should the game be replayed, certainly not. Rules are rules and like them or not you need to follow then. Henry handled the ball and got away with it, but that's no reason to throw out the rest of the rule book.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Preston-North-End.gif 20 Nov 2009 by Eddy21

Roy Keane has just summed it up perfectly!!!
"Ireland should have put away their chances and didnt, France scored and went through. People should get over it!!!"

Controversial decisions occur in most matches, all ( for the teams involved anyway) vitally important, wether for survival, cup glory, or bragging rights.

Rather than looking to refs / video refs to call the shot on these decision, how about the various leagues start clamping down on cheating players?

After all, that is what Henry done, he cheated, he got away with it and he apologised!, so does that make it ok? would he have been so keen to cheat if he knew if he got caught then he would be banned from the world cup finals ( for example)

perhaps if he was to be made an example of then players all over the world would think twice about diving, handling and trying to con the ref.

Cite the player after the game ala rugby and discipline accordingl and leave the ref to ref the match.

This and other similar incidents have happened many times before and will happen many times again, and why worry more about this one? It was two foreign teams after all!

Its a joke football not using the TV.

Speedway, Rugby, Cricket etc etc all use the replay now, and its brilliant, untill football changes it will remain a joke!

no need for video ref.... just ban the frog eating, garlic smelling, snail sliding, crap wine makers from all compititions..... oh we cant do that says the frog eating, garlic smelling, snail sliding, crap wine maker of a uefa chairman...... ooops yeah sorry mr plank.

ive got french blood in my family (having daily transfusions to rectify the situation) but this situation begs for the video ref.... as for Henry, great footballer but tainted forever as is madonna

im now an ex groundsman but hey old habits die hard
