Hi to all. Finally some dry weather. I was just wondering if any body had the thatch away supa system and what they thought of it. At the moment iam verti cutting with toro s tungsten tipped units. kinda good at what there doing but my problem is its performance on throwing the grass into the buckets.

All my hyd are good but just not great in throwing the grass into the buckets. And the i find myself having to double cut the greens afterwards which is very time consuming on a 27 hole golf course

App. these thatch awat units are meant to be the bbbb and eeeees.

If any body has these units could you pls reply back to me and let me know what u think of them.

Is the any sites where i might be able to buy a set second hand set of these units

I think most thatching units will struggle to throw the debris into the catchers if the material is damp. I get around this by adjusting the height of my thatching units so they are not overworking and leave this operation until later in the day when the surface is dry. The company which sells the supa system were selling a number of their demo units in eary November, it may be worth contacting them.

I used thatchaways at the golf course where I used to work - they were fitted to a Jacobsen Greensking. Very good piece of kit, but as Ken suggests above, to get the best out of them the conditions must be right.

I don't know if there are adjustable throw plates on your Toro, but if there are, adjusting them might help.

The "Thatch Away" units are excellent at removing debris in the top 5 mm or so but most thatch is considerably deeper, scarify as deep as poss with a proper bit of kit, graden, sisis, then prevent thatch build up by light scarifying in the summer, best in the afternoon if poss as this leaves a lot less mess, prevent thatch building up by using good sensible green keeping practices. it,s easier than most people think
