Message Board - Bowls: black frost

20 Dec 2009 by grounds.oakham

friday made me a very happy bunny
20 strips spiked, John Deere 2520 plus aercore
4 inch pencil tines, 2x 1 inch spacings 4 inches deep.
The top 1/2 inch was frozen solid, with out any white ryme on the leaf, so by 9.00am made a start, 10.15 job finished.
Not a mark of tractor wheelings, or roller damage, with frost forcast for the next 4 nights it will really be able to get into the 4 inch profile and really give it a good frost heave, that will do more good than any artificial spiking.
I can finish for a Christmas break well chuffed, knowing that the square has been spiked 4 times, at various depths, ranging from 8 inches, to this last time at 4 inches, all from October.

Whatever you were on Kieth must have been some good stuff, bowls. You've got plenty of time to come and visit my skating rink now then.

Ours arn't much better-it was interesting to see our 1st team manager walking the whole field on Saturday moringvwhich was covered in snow and scatching his head in a forlorn hope.

Geography is everywhere
