Message Board - Bowls: Snow on the bowling green

8 Jan 2010 by james bowyer

Hi all I was wondering what is the best thing to do?. Is it clear the snow off the green or leave it to melt and go by itself. The reason is dont want fuzz to develop under the nice warm blanket the snow has caused on the surface of our green. Any advice would be helpful.

I'm leaving mine (crown green in Preston, Lancs) - frozen solid underneath. Had a full covering of snow before Christmas, just got cleared by new year and then got snowed on again and is currently under 2/3 inches 'snow' (ice).

I will be keeping a very close eye on it though once the big thaw starts. when it starts. if it starts - may be the start of another ice age

We have 8 Crown Greens under snow and we will let it melt and defrost by its self. As Gary states, we too will keep an eye out for FUZZ when it all melts.

Thanks everyone I will leave the snow on it and let mother nature take its course. My crown green club is in birmingham and its looks a picture with all the snow on so will leave well alone just hoping no prat walks on it and damges my wonderful turf. Thanks again.

A secret i have ben told is to get a hose pipe and start to water the snow to get rid of it quicker now that the thaw is taking place no more frost which is good. Darren my green is hollyfields in erdington. below is what our green looked like just the other day.
