Hi guys we thought of portable because I don't think you need any planning permission for them? Also we can then move them from pitch to pitch to spread the ware.

Hi Monty,
I have 4 skylite 12's from henry cooch. one of them has a hydraulic mast and the other 3 are hand winding systems. they each have four lights with 1000 watt bulbs powered by kubota? diesel engines.
we have used the 4 for football matches in the past on our 11-a-side pitch - with careful movement of the light units on the mast you can cover a football pitch, but we mainly use them for rugby training in the winter months. they obviously are not stadium standard but suit our situation fine as it allows the teams to train when most schools either go else where and pay a rental fee or dont train at all during the week!!!
the units are like what you see at road work sites and can be easily moved around just like a trailer, as effectively that is what they are!!!!

Monty,
I don't know the details, but if you're near Brigg their juniors use some portable mini flood lights for their training on winter evenings. These look (from the road as I pass the rec) to be about 8 feet high and I've not noticed a large generator. My guess is that they are powering them from a standard petrol genny and that they have just rigged up some standard halogen floodlights (less than a tenner from Wickes etc). A 3kW generator could power 6 500W floodlights.
You'd need to work through the H&S side of this, but that would be a lot of light for a training session if you weren't trying to use a whole pitch.
