Are you sure they are on the right way round Paul ?
16 Jan 2010 by barry glynn
Paul
Checked out the site but cant see if they would fit a mark 4 which I have. Whats yours, looks the same reel as mine. I wass hoping to get a set of tungsten tipped but think the cost may be out of the window. These are cheaper than my normal supplier.

I think Paul has them on the right way particularly if the drive chain is on the right hand side if you were standing behind the machine. If you are using the standard blades you can set them closer I believe so though you will not be able to scarify as deeply I think because you can set them closer, the reel becomes more effective at thatch control.

I marked the old ones and fitted these same place, the end you can see is where bearing fits which is left hand side of machine when stood in front of it, i think it spins anti clockwise.
Now I dont know ???
What do you think

If you open the sisis 9" blade option it tells you they fit Auto Rota and gives a part number,
If your not sure I can always take one off and send it down to you when you return from ur jolly's

No worries mate. What model is yours?
Ill give them a ring anyway.

Dont know what that is mate but no problem.
Where is that number on your machine as a matter of interest?

I'm pretty certain that if that is the bearing end facing you then the tines are the wrong way round, when fitted in the machine the longer vertical straight edge should be facing towards you at the bottom of the rotor as this is coming towards you when operating, and the 45 degree edge should be facing towards you at the top of the rotor and be rotating away from you at the top when working. If the angled edge hits the ground first you will be burying the thatch rather than removing it. On a bowling green you will take about 3 -4 boxes off instead of 50 - 60!
edit - having looked at the picture I could be wrong!!

Cant remember where number is it must be easy to find if I found it, sure it is Sisis Auto Rotorake Mk 4
16 Jan 2010 by barry glynn
Different to mine

I knew my comment would cause debate. Just the devil in me. I asked because there have been many an occasion when i fitted them the wrong way and had to take them all off again to put them on the right way. However, i believe in this instance that they are fitted the right way round Paul. All good fun though.
16 Jan 2010 by paul kelsey
Let me send one to you no good buying them if they dont fit mate

Thanks for that reassurance
I'll put them back on the right way again

Paul it should rotate so that it throws everything forward Edited> (Opposite way to a cylinder in a cylinder mower).

16 Jan 2010 by paul kelsey
Should have said anti clockwise from the side it is bolted on
16 Jan 2010 by barry glynn
Blimey! I used to be indecisive but now Im not so sure. Mario, yeah thats what I have.
The drive drives it forward but the blades spins backwards when engaged
Paul, I will ring them when I come back off my hols, if unsure I will take you up your kind offer.

Has anybody used the stiffer brush attachment available from Brushesnorthwest Ltd. please? Thinking of getting one.
16 Jan 2010 by mario
I have one of theirs. It is a lot stiffer than the genuine Sisis brush and, in my opinion, is too severe for use in pitch preparation when you are looking to stand the grass plant up ahead of cutting.
That being said, it comes into its own when being used to clean pitches after play.
I know no boundaries.
16 Jan 2010 by trubs
Thanks Kenny, useful info. Would you say it was too severe to use on a track (cleaning up), being used for 4 or 5 days?
16 Jan 2010 by mario
"Being used for 4 or 5 days" - I take it that you mean 4 or 5 different matches on different days?
If so, the brush is fine for cleaning up after matches as the grass will be down at match cut height.
It is where, pehaps, that you want to give the square a brush-out to clean it or to give a light "scarify" is where I feel that the non-genuine brush is a bit coarse.
But as I alluded to earlier, it cleans the match debris up extremely well.
I know no boundaries.

Thank you Sir, I have a much better idea of its capabilities now. Sorry for my vagueness, had a difficult day listening to the Cricket!

I got one from them Trubs but got it after the season finished.
It was superb going over the square after scarification with a county 600.
I don't think it will be too stiff for prep' as it can be set at varying heights. I have a "Triorotorake" and it takes less than 5 Min's to swap them over!
Get one!!

Thanks Chris,
Sounds good. I have a new engine on my Rotorake this year, so looking forward to some serious cleaning up!
18 Jan 2010 by Morgan47
I replaced the brush on my Trio Rotarake last season but kept the old brush.
The old one has brissles worn down to about 30 mm long, so the brush becomes stiffer. I then use this to prepare new wickets and the new brush to clean up used ones.
The only small problem I have found with this is that if I use the collection box it drags on the floor when down this low. So I take it off because all I am trying to do is get grass standing up not collecting rubbish.

Wandering whats the best way to use the autorake, just got a mark 3, carb needs looking at as currently leaking.
But have just got a brush reel & have scarifying reel.
Can the brush be used ti clean up any build of moss over winter after a dose of iron.
19 Jan 2010 by paul kelsey
pacman
If you can get hold off a wire tine reel they are ideal for lifting dead moss, think brush would struggle unless you loosen it first.
28 Jan 2010 by andy dixon
Just a quick point. There is now an adaptor plate for fitting a Honda engine replacement for the MAG engine Sisis. Useful when the motor blows up as you can't get parts any more. Christchurch power tools are about to do mine for £450.
28 Jan 2010 by jlawrence
pacman, I tend to attack the moss with a springbok then go over it with the Mk4 with brush in it.
I have the nwbrushes brush and find it fine for prep work. I find you have to do perhaps a bit less verticutting as Mario says the brush is more stiff than the 'sisis' one.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.
28 Jan 2010 by pacman75cricket
andy did you try mertens as they do parts for MAG engines as i contacted them re carb a few days ago,
is the the carb going spare.
