Hi, At this time of the year the ground temp bailey reaches 3/4 degrees anyway, If the ground is not Frozen then there's no reason at all way you can't, Before doing so check the weather for the week that your applying and make sure there's no really cold weather on the way. James (HG).

My memory tells me that grass is pretty much dormant below 4 C (I'm sure someone will know for sure) - so the grass plant itself will benefit little from directly applied products, will take up only a very small proportion and a large amount of the rest will leach out during wet conditions. Too much nitrogen will cause the plant to grow too quickly when the temperature rises a few degrees leaving the plant very vulnerable to disease. However the soil microbes are active as soon as the soil is free of frost - they too are virtually dormant but this is more due to lack of nutrient which would normally be supplied by the roots of the grass plant. Applying microbial food will stimulate these microbes which will be able to support the plant better when temperatures pick up - extending the growing season forward and strengthening the plants ability to fight disease at this vulnerable time of year
