Looking to get one these if my grant applciation is successfull. Has anyone got one of these or knows about them as a matter of feedback.
it is the 4 ft petrol version
What do I do? I just cut the grass.
Our club managed to get a ECB machinery grant for a power club (3ft petrol) last year, would assume they are pretty similar, good build quality, easy to use, low maintenance and produced excellent results. Ballast tanks are handy for building up the weight during pre-season, but expect it to take a while to fully fill them and drain them at the end of the season.
Steve
Thanks Stephen
They seem to have a decent reputation

hi barry boston c.c have had one for the last 5 years and i have used it when helping the guys. it is brilliant with multiple ballast tanks to get exactly the right weight you want.this one has the great honda engine fitted and power steering which is bliss after using the stothart pitt 32 roller that i have at my club.the only thing you need to check regular is the engine air filter as it gets full quickly with the engine being enclosed under the chassis and keep an eye on keeping the drive chains lubed as they are a bitch to change many thanks karl
once a ransomes man allways a ransomes man !!!!

Thanks for the info k-hib
Eddie
I currently have auto-roller 1.3 tonnes, think this poweroll is a better bet if I can get it. Putting water in the rolls is a pain

Hi Barry we have the county model and would buy another one at the drop of a hat. The ballasting is very easy although as said before can take some time. If you can get the money dont hesitate. Ian
Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!
Why does it take time to fill with water ?
As usual, all depends on the diameter of the hose, water pressure. Didn't take very long when I did it, about 15 mins per tank / roller from memory.
Can be done while you cut pitches or whatever as the hose doesn't need holding. Emptying even quicker as long as both bungs are undone to allow air in.
Proud to serve grassroots cricket
we bought the poweroll club
So it takes some time to ballast up, now ain't that a surprise -- NOT.
Come on guys, we're talking about adding a considerable amount of weight (compared to the initial weight of the machine). What do you expect, to click your fingers and it just bloody appears ?
Like Phil, mine takes about 15 minutes to fill each roller. I do it in two or three stages depending on how the psr is going. so it's no big deal to spend 10 minutes once a week in the spring adding some water until I'll at full weight.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.
I agree jon. One reason I am going for a Poweroll is the ease of ballasting, sounds a piece of cake to me, much better thaan having to fill up the rollers. Just hope my grant application goes through. Unfortunately even if it does, I wont get it in time for psr, so if I do get it, around late May time, I will be immediately ballast it up to full weight. Be interesting to see how much, if any, the extra weight improves bounce,But in any case, not having to risk a heart attack every time I have to crank start my 45 year old TW White autoroller will be a delight! And power steering will ease the wear on my arthritic old arms!
In the meantime, better take a deep breath and see if my old one will start up after being in the open albiet under some covers in this awfull winter. Better get down the gym!
Got to put £700 to the total cost if we get the grant but a new roller for £700 is a good buy! Thats the way I sold it to the committee even in these har economic times.

Poweroll Club. Totally agree with JL - except the rollers fill in 5 minutes on the Club as they're pretty low capacity. The main tank can take about 15 minutes. Take the roller close to the tap and use a short hose guys!
Drainage at end of year - a few minutes whilst you do another job.
The ciderman rolls
The reason i asked, why does it take so long, is this. Who ever fills there roller drums quickly ? It has always taken a while as far as i know. Bigger tanks, longer to fill, simples !!
I would'nt be holding your breath Barry. If your machinery grant bid is excepted, a big if i think, you might get your roller by spring next year. It seems to take for ever for the money to come through once the grant has been awarded. Keep cranking.
They told me six weeks if successful from moment they recieve full application
What do I do? I just cut the grass.
Ours (petrol poweroll 15)arrived 6 weeks after our application was granted, the hardest part of the process was filling in the application form. All happened very quickly with no problems.
See you monday barry.
There you go Bath, ye of little faith!
The application is not that straight forward and you have to jump through a few hoops.
Fingers crossed. yep looking forward to Monday Learner, just let me know what time suits you

Barry I think Gordon maybe referring to the machinery fund not being available this year as based on ECB investments. As when enquiring via a CDM they were not optimistic but this was about a month or so a go so may have been developments since. Have you spoken to the CDM.
The CDM was the person wwho put me onto it. I also spoke to the small grants people at Sport England and they told me if passed the money would be available in 6 weeks. This year could mean from April, I think my application is within the last years funding. But then again, nothing would surprise me with the ECB.

I only posted Barry because of a situation that arose in my county very recently. Club was informed that they had been successful in there bid for a roller, weeks ago, applied months ago.
Since Christmas they were informed that the money had been withdrawn and that they may not get any.
A few rather turse phone calls were made around and after a couple of weeks the grant was re awarded. Still waiting for the money though.
That is why i say dont hold your breath. I really hope you do get one. I for one would not be swinging a handle to start a roller. I wish you every success.
No worries Gordon, I am not holding my breath either. Expect to be risking heart attack trying to start the old booger again. We hav been told we are going to made a Focus club, last month, this month, whenever. So if unsuccesfull with Sport England will try that route. Cant see why Sport England should be short of funds, the lottery amounts each week are going up currently.
But its your worst nightmare trying to start your old roller each Spring, praying that it starts.

Barry
Do you leave your machines stood all winter, try and run all ours at least once a month in closed season.
Dont so it once a month mate, probably should, moved the mowers inside the pavilion a couple of weeks ago, they are apart currently anyway. Going to try the roller this week.

I may have got my wires crossed Barry. I was assuming that you were applying to the ECB machinery fund. Sorry.
I think you have Gordon! Yep its a Sport England grant, so fingers crossed. Had a look at the model at another local club this morning, it does look good. Im off in a minute to risk heart attack to see if I can get my old one going.

This is the roller i'm after Barry by way of ECB grant.
I'm in Bath's county and he told me to expect to get the roller next year if at all!i must admit i haven't heard anything yet!..apparently the ECB were meant to have a meeting to decide where funds will go!Thats what i was told by the CDM xmas time!..Thing is the county are bloody quick to get as many fixtures on your ground in the summer but don't seem to bend over backwards to help clubs get their grant quickly!
I suppose we can only wait and see!!
Mavo
I presume it works then the same as here, in much as the ECB passes it down to the county who then control the purse strings to the clubs.
This is so I think that it takes the onus off the ECB, admin wise and responsibility wise.
I presume you are a Focus club?
Anyway, the roller looks a belter. Ive put in for the petrol(not a lot of difference in the cost of the 2 fuels now) version to keep the cost down, would have prefered the deisel but hey ho. The ballast tanks are situated in easy reach front and back, better than piddling about with filling rollers up.
Managed to start my old TW White up this afternoon on what was going to be the last and 12th attempt with the crank handle, my heartbeat has only just down below 200 now!

Yeah we are a Focus club Barry, the CDM said we were top of list to get the grant.I've only actually seen the Poweroll in the brochure,i wanted a heavier, wider roller and this one fit the bill.
I don't have to crank handle my current roller but its had its day!
Heres hoping to sitting on a Poweroll this season!!??..and good luck with your grant Barry.
Yes mate, lets hope we are both doing that this summer!
Be nice to sit on a seat not held together with masking tape!
