Message Board - Football: Best Time To Vert-Drain?

3 Mar 2010 by Elite

I have been given a little extra in my buget to get our three pitches Vert-Drained, however, the budget will only stretch to me hiring and carrying out the work once a year.
What would be the best time of year to carry out the work?

E, Depends what you want to achieve and if the weather gods are smiling on you, done in conjunction with end of season renovations is the norm, to reduce compaction and improve structure from the Winter past or in Autumn to prepare for the Winter ahead. The soil conditions at that time will dictate how effective it is and what type of 'heave' if any is needed, ideally it will fracture the soil if this is friable, but will bounce over too shallow if too dry and if too wet what you do not want is to have a 'fork in butter' effect where you are just making holes in soft soil to fill up with water.
Hope that helps

Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!
