Hi Bit of a part time groundsman - more of a hobby , local club and private pitch at home.

What's the best recommended fertiliser to get the grass going at this time of year ( its not new seeded), mate of mine uses 5 star , but can that scorch ?

just want nice green grass cheaply....
thanks

somethink with a 5-5-10 type of anaylisis may suit ie low nitrogen.Theres plenty of companys out there, but you get what you pay for with feeds ,just make sure you apply it when grass is growing,so you dont end up wasting it.

the Pitchcare shop, may be of help.

What sport, what area?
If you were a pro where time is money, or you just want a simple solution, I tend to agree with BAS. If you are willing to do a little work yourself, I disagree. I will be buying 20-10-10 paddock fertiliser from the local saddlery for about £16 for 25kg. This is a coarse grain fert and so if applied direct to fine turf it gives a mottled effect and there is some scorch. However, for a little effort to disolve it and let the insolubles settle out I get a perfectly good liquid feed for probably a quarter of what I'd pay for the same feed content in mini-prill. Spray before rain and the end result is the same as if I'd paid much more.
They also do different blends suitable for a/w.

A word of caution. Paddock feed is a mixture of prills containing the different NPK elements. It is not a compound where each individual prill contains all three elements. Disolving it looses the paced release effect of it and all nutrients become immediately available to give a very short lived big flush of growth.
