lol. You want one with a seat on Steve. I was tempted to get the roller out today but decided to feed instead and chop some bushes down.
Plenty of time for rolling before the season starts yet.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

I've done a couple of passes already but using the only roller i have the 32rd unballasted!...least you keep warm walking behind Steve!

Couldn't believe how heavy the arms were!
I did one strip and the groundsman from Blackpool cc who came to have look nearly put his back out watching me - "don't forget Steve, nice union jack pattern" and off he walked chuckling to himself. Mind you he did get me some ear defenders as i had forgotton mine.

As far as I know, this is the first ever PSR and certainly the first time in at 5 years that a roller has been near the square, it might well be another five years the way my arms feel!!! :))

Stewve
You poor s*d! That must have been a real task!

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

11 Mar 2010 by Grassman2011

Ballast the roller tomorrow.
Grass wicket practice next from Thursday. Practice game, one dayer, two weeks today.

11 Mar 2010 by barry glynn

Got to get some psr in next week, snow and sleet forecast for the following week!

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Practice next Thursday Gordon!?i better not suggest that at our club!..and i've been moaning that our first"friendly"is on April 10th!

11 Mar 2010 by jlawrence

I've had to double check my fixtures - I'm amazed that our first practice game isn't until the 17th. Well, there's a practice game for the 1st's and 3rd's - I've got a league game on the top of a hill above Bath and it'll be ffff freezing.
We 'normally' start outdoor nets around the 2nd weekend in April - before then the light isn't really there to allow mid week outdoor practice.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

I'll be very strict this season as the winter has been tough on the grass, and i don't want them wrecking a wicket too soon!
Been wanting to build some practice strips in outfield, but it cost too much for the comittee to ok it.

12 Mar 2010 by barry glynn

The normal mountain of ignorance has started early this season. Third eleven captain wanting practice wickets on the square each week just for the 3rd and 4th teams to practice on. Treasurer telling me I should just cut some practice wickets on the outfield for them. All this and we have 2 state of the art full length artificial Nottingham net surfaces!
Gotta love 'em!

barry after your reading your profile in the magazine I am sure you left them in no doubt of your thoughts about their suggestions

I feel your pain Steve, I'm about to embark on some PSR with an old manual push roller as our walk behind pedestrian gave up the ghost.

12 Mar 2010 by barry glynn

Andy
Believe it or not, I was quite restrained mate ( for me).

Stewart, I am never going to complain about my lack of machinery ever again.

Steve,
I guess you don't believe the Cranfield report then? The whole Union Jack is a day?

The ciderman rolls

Perry 1 12 Mar 2010 by Steve63

lol

I dont own a roller so I hired one for 1 days hire, to roll the square once (about an hour) and then send it back would not be "Best Value" (Local Authority speak) therefore I used it till my arms were falling off and then phoned Smiths hire begging them to collect their d4mned roller.

When Cranfield come and conduct their tests on my square then I'll take some notice of them, until then I think I know my square a darn sight better than them.

Steve

I suppose that now I shall have to take the report out of my bottom drawer and read it instead of looking at the pretty graphs and pictures.

I agree with you steve although Cranfield has given us facts and figures every ground is different and you should work out the best practice for each square. On my main square it dries out so quickly i cant leave as long as they say before rolling or i will be wasting my time. Ian

Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!

12 Mar 2010 by barry glynn

Yes Andy, I hold my hands up, it is indeed my fault it is hissing down today. You and I know that if I hadnt watered yesterday it would not hhave rained a drop today and you could have been PSR'ing away all day.
Sorry

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Perry 1 12 Mar 2010 by Steve63

There is some good info within the report however, it would have more credibility if the research had been done outside and on a square where people play cricket!

Just done my first PSR on the main square. Spring is coming. Even though we sprayed with worm control there are two many casts on the square but none on the outfields. Ian
