Message Board - Football: Portsmouth FC
12 Mar 2010 by Greenfingers
I see on the BBC sport web site, 'Friday Gossip' that the Portsmouth players are going to chip in to pay 8 members of staff at the training ground.
Hopefully the staff at the training ground will be OK, it is typical of Football Clubs that it is possible for one player to earn more in 4 days than a hardworking groundsman does in a whole year.
The CEO who was in charge for this financial fiasco has reduced his salary to a mere 50K per year to help the club out.

What have bournemouth, west ham, portsmouth, southampton, then portsmouth again all got in common, apart from the fact they are all in financial do do? They all have had the same manager who seems to have got way without any blame connected to him over the mess these clubs find themselves in. Or is this unfair?

Are you suggesting Totters should look out???????????????

Professional football is run either by complete d**heads or property magnates ( not much difference really between the two) and as always, its the decent hardworking people who suffer. The Directors and thick footballers will be ok
What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Maybe, but while he can pay overinflated wages and make a bob or too he will, when the money goes, which it will what will happen to the spurs?

Ultimately he was given the go ahead to go and get these players wasn't he ? He was trying to compete at the highest level they could afford or not afford as these cases have proved , the chickens have come home to roost and football has started to eat itself. Financial mis-management has come from the very top , H was instrumental but not the one calling the shots. I suppose Pompey are grateful Sol is allowing them to defer payment on what he is owed in wages , small mercies in these difficult times for them.
It does surprise me that the working mans sport has become so polarised , why would you idolise players that have such a removed lifestyle from the average working man and often don't want anything to do with the fans deliberately keeping their ipods on to avoid any interaction. Football seems to be the one profession managers can actually fail at and still walk away with a fortune , a very bizzare business all round this football thing. :(
Its got to be purrrfect

Rob there are more than football managers that walk away with a fortune as reward for failure .............. Dare I mention bankers
but it doesn't stop there I think in what ever profession you are in the MD always gets a good golden hand shake.
Geography is everywhere
