Message Board - Football: Amatuer Pitch Maintainance

18 Mar 2010 by Steve Dunn

Having read a lot of the articles it is clear that a lot of amatuer clubs have to rely on their committee to do the work to keep the costs down. The problem I have is knowing when and what to do. I want to repair the goalmouths, fertise the pitch, verti drain and sand and overseed the question is in what order should they be done. Do I fertise first before seeding or after etc. I want to start on May 10th,can anyone suggest a timescale for doing each job planned

Many thanks to I think it was Lawrence from the Pitchcare team who phoned me 20minutes after I posted my query. Not only did he answer my questions he also offered plenty of excellant advice on other things I had not considered.Keep up the good work Pitchcare.

PS. Is Scotts Sierra Blen Plus Spring Starter 24:+5:+13:+2mgo any good as a fertiliser to use now in march to get the grass going again?

Hi Steve, this may be worthwhile of a read and look to some of the courses available, not an exact timeline but at least lets you understand what ought to be done when, good luck.
