Message Board - Pests, Weeds and Diseases: Wild Garlic

Avatar: ghost b avat 18 Mar 2010 by dpeyres

A customer of mine has asked if I can eradicate the wild garlic that she's got growing in her shrub beds.

Does anyone know of a way to completely eradicate them from the garden??

Thanks

David

It is impossible, the bulbs can be 3+ feet deep and multiply like .. er, like garlic. It is particularly difficult when it appears amongst shrubbery, borders or around trees - you cannot dig it out or spray.

The only options are repetitive hand weeding - keep cutting it out using a long knife as deep as you can go under the surface; or repetitive wiping of the leaves with a systemic herbicide - you can get glyphosate applicators which look like pritsticks or roll-on deodorants. Either way you have got a 5 year battle on your hands.
