Message Board - Football: Football pitch markers

18 Mar 2010 by mr wood

Hi all,

as weather is getting better hope everyone is enjoying working on there grounds now.

just wondering peoples views on football pitch markers as at the moment we have a 20 yr old transfer wheel marker its seen better days and to be honest its rubbish i hate it and the powder, tried with the liquid but doesnt work at all well. we have literally no money at the moment so i have to put in a bit myself or get some donations off fans of the club and village people.

i ve seen some spray can machines but dont think they would work at all well and cost a fortune in cans!!

i d ideally like a spray line marker with battery charger etc as the councils use this and seems so so easy

i forgot to ask what people use and recommend and rough prices would be a great help to.

Hi David ,

Most people will have their favourite , the Fleet kombi , superturf txe , grassline titan , bowcom etc are all decent machines .
One way to get a marker a bit cheaper is to ask your local council . We get 2 markers for the price of 1 because of the amount of paint we use , and have in the past done deals with sports clubs and contractors who we have good relationships with to provide 1 at half price .(sshhhh don't tell the reps!!)

been to the councils and the rec committee and nothing doing there apart from they will pay for cost of paint or powder to mark pitch out lol.

just sending letters to local companies trying to get some extra sponsorship weather we put their logo onto our shorts or back of shirts and on container which holds all our equipment to see if we can strike some deals lol

Hi David.....where abouts are you...who is your local authority..??????....i use a Kombi marker from Fleetline, and i use Super C paint thru it...as Stevejack says, everyone has their favourites...get on to the reps for all these machines, see if there is a chance of an ex demo machine up for grabs, and when you do if you are successful, pin them down for a sensible price to supply their paint.....i have a fantastic relationship with Fleet,

David, Ive got both kombi marker and a rigby taylor impact marker although both are good machines i would always go for the impact marker and we got a half price machine when ordering half a pallet of impact line marker. Ian

David how many pitches do you have to mark?

19 Mar 2010 by mr wood

i m lucky enough to just have the one to contend with and we used to have 4 teams 10 yrs ago but one by one they have folded and this team would of done if i hadnt became secretary, manager, groundsman, kitman etc with a friend.

i love the team and its a small close knitt village so need better equipment as i m down there hours some nights and before games

even if i got second hand things for small amounts of money i d be happy.

For one pitch I would use a decent wheel marker and a good quality liquid paint. You are never going to use enough paint to get a good discount or cheap/free spray marker from any manufacturer. If its too wet or muddy to get a line on with a wheel marker then its more than likely too wet to use the pitch.

well the problem we have is that someone burnt lines into the pitch a yr or so ago so thats why its so difficult to mark out and the pitch away from the lines is in good condition which has got us some praise this yr from a few clubs which is nice to recieve.

this leads on to the beauty of a spray marker....puts a nice line down even across bare mud/soil....... Fleet do have used machines for sale....get in touch with them, as Mwood says, you can get a good deal with machine and paint purchase, BUT dont order too much paint ....as contrary to popular belief...all these paints DO have a shelf life....i know someone who bought a large quantity of RT Impact paint and it DID go off.....
