Message Board - Natural Turf: selective weedkiller

13 Apr 2010 by james s

Hi All

Has anyone considered applying selective on fairways yet ?

we have some growth and the daisys are flowering, we are on a mixture of heavy and sandy soil

I have never sprayed selective before mid May and I am conscious that the forecast is dry for the next week, as yet the fairways dont look dry but its in the post.

The question is do I go on the side of caution and wait a little ?

Using Holster XL at standard rates

Hi James, Providing there is not a frost forecast, there is no other reason why you could not apply a selective herbicide this time of year. I also have the chemical in stock and ready to go, but I intend in hanging on a little longer, mainly because growth is behind this year and I am sure there are seedlings just waiting to come through..... and I don't want to miss them little buggers!

I have held back on spraying our outfield for the same reasons mentioned above, but, the dandelions in the bank have gone to seed already.

I'm starting to see some weeds coming to life but things seem to be happening rather slower than in other years.
I'm tempted to spray my outfields now but equally I'm tempted to wait a little longer.

Daisies are coming through well but the others seem well behind - in fact even the daisies seem smaller than normal.
I think I'll wait another week or so and see what happens.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.
