Its not a problem down here, the problem is 3 miles up in the sky

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Consider it a bonus as it will fortify (with minerals) the depleted soils of our country. NATURE IN CONJUNCTION WITH GRASS PRACTITIONERS!

We, in Aberdeen, could detect a faint sulpherous (is there such a word?), slight burning smell yesterday but all clear today.

Anywhoo, I'm going to be watching DCI Gene Hunt tonight at nine o'clock as he knows all about Ashes to Ashes!

I know no boundaries.

Well Guys. the ashes in the air meant that I had to slum it at Balbirnie House Hotel for two nights, which is owned by my business partner's son-in-law (see www.balbirnie.co.uk, business partner Ian Mac), and then today had a 2 1/2 hour ride in a Porsche to catch the ferry to Belfast.

It's a bum life sometimes.

Best regards

Kebs: The grit/ash may affect them but Blades should be checked for 'cut' regularly anyway.

Air Filters will need checking on machines with both foam and paper elements. If you can detect fine dust (footprints or tyre marks) on pathways and hard surfaces it's an issue for sure.

The dust may be in the air for some weeks.

Thanks - I can see my greenhouses are no longer clear and was just wondering .... if the weather remains dry all week we will irrigate to remove the dust from the grass and borders as I think I was wondering if thr dust would block up the leaf pores?

Nothing to get in a lava about.

Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.

Rumour has it that the dust has come from Glasgow when Celtic Football Club decided to clean it's trophy cabinet!

I know no boundaries.

I know it’s a bit early for Iceland volcano jokes. Perhaps we should wait a while for the dust to settle?

Perhaps not?

Iceland goes bankrupt, then it manages to set itself on fire. This has insurance scam written all over it.

As to it's effects on soil, I have not been able to find an analysis of the ash or any measurement of the amounts deposited. If it is typical volcanic ash then it will contain some Sulphur, but amounts will be small and the acidifying effect very limited unless the eruption continues for months.

There’s no pleasing the English.

The last time they got the Ashes they were over the moon!

Ash.jpg

If you guys want to know the chemical composition of the ash, these are the latest figures posted on the Icelandic Met Office web site.

I don't think there is much you boys in the UK have to worry about. I'm only 90 miles from the damn thing and wind is blowing my way, still not too concerned (these might be my famous last words, though;)

Here you guys can have a look at pictures taken at Westman Island Golf Course in South Iceland (volcanic island about 25 miles South West of Eyjafjallajökull Glacier (the erupting volcano)).
