brighton 2010 017.jpg

Had a few days in Brighton a few weeks ago and went onto Devils Dyke.
Below me and about half a mile away I spotted these two grounds and thought the person who looks after them is a very lucky so and so.
Can anyone tell me the name of the grounds and which village is it near etc etc.
Do you think he or she might fancy a swap and come to work in North Lancs. I am well placed for The Lake District!!!!

It is village called Fulking (no jokes please)

I used to live nearby, along with Sally Gunnell & Jimmy Hill.

You actually live with them two??
No wonder you fidget.
Thanks anyway..............
Just had a look. Very nice but I do think one would have to be posh and very well healed, even just to mow the outfield!!

Just had a look at their website, very entertaining match reports and it does look like a very nice place to play cricket.

PNCC are quite well-healed thanks to the Will of a wealthy benefactor. Sussex CCC benefitted similarly from the same gentleman.

Nice part of the world and as you experienced Chris - amazing height to view from.

I, too, lived nearby but not as close as Fidget... and not with Sal or Jim.

GOGGA

Be careful if you google ' Sally Gunnell Fulking'.
Might be difficult to explain to the Mrs!

Chris, Just round the corner is sussex academy ground. as sumo said the money was left to sussex and preston nomads by Spen Cama in his will. the indoor school is named after him.

It's a lovely ground and investment over the last five years or so has meant that it has a fantastic new club house, two new squares, newly constructed outfield (on the big ground) and pop-up irrigation. Most of the money that was left to them by Spen Carma's has been set aside into a seperate trust which is used to help fund projects at other cricket clubs in the county. So not only is it a lovely place, it has lovely members too!

The groundsman, Brian Sandalls, has done a fantastic job in turning the playing surfaces and also the surrounds into something the club can be truly proud of. Everything is always spot on and even the machinery in his shed looks as good as new.

Doubt he'd be up for a move up to Lancs though, it never stops bloody raining and he gets dizzy if he goes too far north.

Don't blame him "Mack"
I always regret not being born in the south!!
It stopped raining here a while ago but it was only early this week that I actually felt warmish, 17 of May i think when Spring came.
I am not jealous of him but there was a pang of envy when The Wolds opened up before me and I saw the ground.
The Lucky Lucky Bar............... I thought.
Ah well

it's amazing how different the weather is around the country at the moment.
We've had 4 days (i think) where it's rained since the beginning of April. I'm now struggling to get anywhere near enough water on my squares to stop them looking like the grand canyon.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

It's dry now J L and has been for a few weeks with the occasional period of rain. Like you say it's dry though and square is like concrete and me garden hose is going all day just to prep a track!!!! It was the cold N and NE wind that was bad and it was 17th May before I was warm.
Back to Brighton. I wore shorts down there 4 weeks ago but not up here!! The difference in temperature over the 320 miles south is quite marked.

Chris,
Greetings from Brighton, 09.50 bright sunlight and the temp expected to reach 26-28 later. Ideal for a strol along the front , and hope you do not bump into ,heather mills, katie price, or chris eubank.

You'd trip over one, bounce off another and get flattened by another. But not necessarily in that order.

Hi "Higgins" Daughter lives in Kemp Town so get down about twice a year.
Those are three people I would def' NOT want to meet under any circumstances.
Saw the ex boxer a couple of years ago posing in a big black Humvee. "Dear me" I thought. "What a .............."
There is a ground near Kemp Town in a park with other sports facilities.
Had a look at the square (winter) but looks like cars can get on it! Is that your ground??

Chris,
I came down to Brighton from london parks as assistant director brighton parks in the 90's, retired, nowrunning landscape business with my son.
I know the park you refered to, travellers, yobo's,and joy riders they all fequent the park, and do not care if they go on the square. Before cut backs we had park police, with ex police officers, all the local youth knew them, and only got told off once.

Chris. I'm from Lancs myself and have been in Sussex now for four years. The weather is remarkably different down here and occasionally I feel like I'm on holiday.

We've had about 5mm of rain in the last nine weeks in Hove.

I do miss the Lake District though!

Yes When I go there fishing I do feel privileged to live so close.
