Football Pitch Markings on Goal & Touch Lines
Why are groundsmen placing marks off the pitch 11 yds from the corner flag on the touch lines. Law 1, decision 6 of the Laws of Association Football state this mark may only be placed on the goal line 9.15 metres (10yds) from the corner arc. ( 11 yds from the flag) Has anyone got a reason?
If I was allowed I would like to put these marks at the top of the goal area to stop the keepers diging holes!

it is the same law as applies to penaltys, free kicks, goal kicks etc, the nearest opposing player cannot be within ten yards of the ball, and the reason for it being measured from the edge of the arc i would assume is that most people these days put the ball on the edge of the arc when taking a corner
