Message Board - Cricket: Waiting for my 3rd Palladin Clutch Cable since end of March

7 Jun 2010 by paul kelsey

Hi All
Replaced my clutch cable end of March lasted 6 wks the soldered nipple at the gearbox end came off, had it replaced and then today the end has come off again and another one is on its way, I can pull the clutch in with two fingers so it doesnt seem under great strain, it seems a bit odd had original one donkeys years and now two in about 10 wks, its not just replacing the cable but having to drain the gearbox and fish the ends out thats the pain, I found out today there's been another one returned so could be a faulty batch.

Anybody had similar problems

Thanks Paul

Are these genuine Lloyds replacement cables?....and what do Lloyds make of your problem?

I know no boundaries.

Most likely a 'Batch' problem. - Cables are a bought-in item. Lloyds will sort you out I'm sure.

'They' don't make cables like they used to. Something to do with the lead (Pb) content of the solder holding the nipple on.

I had this problem last year and Lloyds were very good and replaced cable (s) free of charge and in double quick time. However, as far as I know this was a faulty batch and they have since changed the clutch cable entirely so that now you get a clutch cable assembly complete with clutch lever and the screw in bit.

If you have been supplied with the old style cable (just cable) rather than the newer cable with clutch lever then I'd ask them why.

I have the new style cable, last time I returned only the cable and they sent the full kit so I returned the new lever, this time sending cable only now ive taken the whole lot back, it is a much improved lever than the old style.
