Message Board - Cricket: Climate covers

I believe these covers are great, easy to handle and do everything it says on the packet. I do have one big problem though. Should/when they ever need repairing, the nightmare begins.
Repairs are expensive and have proven to be very unreliable.
Where do you get yours repaired, how much and do they stay repaired ?

Never had this problem, although I am aware of others who have with the climate cover. Having said that, if I were to have a failure of our climate cover, and with our location making returning the product to the factory an unrealistic proposition, I would most likely make contact with a local yacht club to see what sailors use to repair their sails - yacht sails are put under tremendous stresses, so I would imagine that any suitable repair method for them would be adequate for a climate cover, or other flat sheet.

Have found some repair tapes here and here that might be a possible solution.

I have had a climate cover at Uxbridge for 3 seasons, it is great to use. when we have had a minor problem, the company which supplied it, TTS have always put us right foc by return of post.

Thanks Mike and Vic. You are very lucky then Vic or you have something that i dont. Free of charge, tts always said i was the only one who ever had any problems. Put in touch with sail making company but repairs still appear to be very unreliable. One repair recently has not even had the backing tape put on behind the stitching and the backing tape on another has peeled right of the minute it got damp.
Will make enquiries to your suggestions Mike. Many thanks.

Gordon, our problems have been minor, needed a repair kit when a player ran over it, one phone call and it was in the post. Like most others, the meter thingy gave up after a week but that is not a worry to me.
Would add that ours is not really old enough to comment on longevity yet.

Last year I went for the lightest weight breathable cover from Stuart Canvas rather than the more expensive Climate Covers.

The 3-track cover is light enough to handle (when dry and not blowing a gale), but so far it has not stood up to player handling or crows very well. I repaired a couple of rips late last year - the company supplies the kit, you smooth a patch over the damage using a warm iron, a bit like WondaWeb. Semi successful. A couple more rips have appeared this year, so I will be getting the ironing board out again soon.

I also saw the same sized Climate Cover version being used at Egham a couple of weeks ago, looked stronger all round so could be a heavier grade of material but probably cost another £1,000.

Sorry not for not replyimg sooner.
Ampthill CC has had climate covers for around 4 or 5 years the first one lasted around 4 years and then it went porous.
it was sent away for repairs once it was quite expensive but
it was checked all over for holes and properly patched.
our first cover was probably a little too large which meant that
the seams took alot of strain when being pulled on and off in a hurry during a game. the new cover is smaller and also seems to have some much stronger handles to corners and along the sides.
Finally we tried some stuff called storm seal for small repairs and this worked well. performance of the covers I believe has been outstanding but you have to factor in that they don't last forever.
allow around four years. which works out about £800.00/year
