Square Ropes

Does anyone know of anyone who may provide special cricket square ropes/ fence equipment.

At our club we currently use a good old fashioned spike in the ground with rope wrapped around it to keep people off our square. We are looking for something more classy!

Paint the pins, that makes them look classy.

Tried that, the kids find em easier to spot though.

At one place I worked we bought small wooden tree stakes (say 4' [240cm]), painted them (optional), banged them in the ground and used chicken wire and staples. Problem is of course that they are not easily removed for mowing etc..

Instead of chicken wire, you could staple a rope to the top. That looks good, especially if you leave some slack in the rope.

One school I saw had some sort of plastic golf pegs a similar diameter to tree stakes, but they did look a bit delicate.

Hi we had several problems with our squares we had tried wooden stakes, the students kept on breaking them and we had to dig them out where they where brocken off, we then decided to make our own out of one and a quarter inch dia water pipe, 6 feet high with a large hole drilled through so that the rope can be passed through, they are also painted white so they look really classy and heavy enough to stop kids from messing around with them. we also made sockets which are of the square and sunk into the ground at the required depth, so when it is the start of the cricket all we have to do is take the rope off lift the post out and pop on a top and cover with soil by the time the students come back no one knows where the posts have been, we have eight posts per cricket square the pipe cost about £20.00 per length and you would get about 3 posts out of one length plus a couple of sockets. to maintain them just paint with a good outdoor paint, will last for years.

forgot to say that you will need a slightly larger dia of pipe that goes into the ground, we found that old netball posts will do, plus when you make your sockets don't forget to put a flat bit on the bottom with a small drain hole in the centre. ok.
