Message Board - Cricket: Comparing Cracks

Hi Chaps,

What is the main reasons for causing crazy paving style cracks compared to straight line ones?

Straight line ones I've always traced back to machinery use.

Mr Asquith, any info on the subject?

Thanks in advance. Comments from users of high end clays very welcome. 30% plus...

Hello Jamie

I will drop you an email with my work on this over numerous years - it is far beyond the scope of replying here on Pitchcare and it is worth a book in itself.

As an example, I found interesting results from reinforcements, different amounts of organic matter, constructions, drying rates, depth of construction, rolling (and management), rooting mass and ofcourse minerology - all varied in response to different parametres above.

In the lab and field I also looked at Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Ca, Mg saturation (which confered strength and density variations which produced different results) and in the lab Sulphuric Acid.

If amyone is interested in such work drop me an email to anthony.asquith@hotmail.com

Cheers

AA
