Does anyone have any opinion on the best quality bent seed for renovation of a sand based golf green,does the more expensive seed really merit the extra cost?

Stick with the best you can get, a cheap investment.
Although, from the many I have tested in the past, the difference beetween many of the top bunch is not significant and is probably one point or so.
The statistics from the ratings and the use of references to the LSD figure (least significant difference) if the ratings are not significant then the cultivars are not. Long term testing often changes ratings but fundementally this is the sort of information that is needed.
