Message Board - Cricket: Pulling a roller

Hi,

Might be a silly question, but...

Could a Hayter LT324 pull a large outfield roller?

Thanks!
Neil

Please define a "large outfield roller" !

I know no boundaries.

Hi,

I'm not sure of the weight but it looks a lot like this one.

The advert says 3 tonnes.

Might pull it down hill for a bit.....just until the roller overtakes anyways....... Unit weighs 1.3t according to tech info, add a few kgs for driver and hitch mod....

Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!

Yep, Silly question.

A year ago you were having trouble with this machine "starting to get a bit tempermental" and Ticky related the cost of a new hydrostat being of the order of £4,000. Now you want it to tow a 3 tonne roller?

No (if you want to stay alive).

Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.

Definitely no. The hydrostatic drive is not designed for that amount of weight changing direction all the time. Nor is it designed for accelerating/decelerating that kind of weight, or even turning with that sort of restriction on it. I think you would be in for an extremely expensive repair - dont take the risk

Thanks Vid.
Sipho - I'm looking to roll an outfield.

I have visions of a roller lashed with a rope to the back and soon as you slow down to turn it going straight through the radiator.

Some people are like Slinky's, totally useless but amusing if you push them down the stairs

It may be noisy but cant you find someone with a 4WD and a towing jaw who can help - L/R defender especially

Why are you rolling an outfield ?
I find the rollers on my triple heads more than adequate for settling the surface back down after the winter months.
I do have an outfield roller but it hasn't moved from it's parking spot for the past 2 years.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Ditto, JL

Yep my triple with my 100 kilos on top of it does the trick ok.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

May need consolidating after Renovation/ Levelling works?

23 Aug 2010 by jlawrence

That's a possibility trubs. But then if you're getting that sort of work done on an outfield you won't be needing to pull said roller with a triple.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.
