Message Board - Cricket: How observant are your cricket players?

I have come back from two weeks hols and prepared and marked out a pitch for last Sunday's match, I was going to use the previous track that had been prepared for the previous weekend for Saturdays match. This track was prepared by some one else when I was sunbathing.
As i started to mark out the second crease it was obvious that the markings were wrong, checked the tape, 66ft, looked across and realised that the previous track was marked at 70ft and had been played on and no complaints!!
There was no other the visible markings on the square when it was used, so no clear reference to show it was long, but wouldn't the bowlers have struggled with their length?
Regards
Steve

When I remarked my nets this year I found that they'd only previously been marked at 21yds - no wonder some of the mediocre bowlers seemed a bit sharp. No one had noticed in the 3 or 4 years they'd been there. I only had to get the tape out this year because there was no hint of any line there at all.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

What they still around? Last time I used one of them it was dragging a drag matt behind a mastiff 25 millennium ago.

As an opening bowler, I always knew if a pitch was too long, but never noticed if it was a bit short!

A few years back I was asked to inspect a pitch which had been played on the previous weekend.
The visiting team had complained that it "looked a bit short".
With chain in hand, (no it was a tape measure - although I do possess one!!), I duly discovered that the pitch was 4 feet and 4 inches short of the required 66 feet.
The worrying thing was that they had been playing on this length all season as previous pitches testified to!!
I know no boundaries.
