Thats a very complicated topic gerald as there are so many factors. However to start the conversation off what you most need to consider is how to provide nutrition and not have it wash straight out with rain and irrigation but at the same time maintain health of the plant and rooting depth. This means there has to be material within the rootzone that can hold the nutrient and even then nutrients need to be carefully applied - little and often.

Totally agree with Vid!
From the numerous trials I have done over the years on a plethorea of rootzones, the cheap fertilizers performed just as good as much more expensive ones - in fact NH4NO3 applied little and often outperformed a multitude of slow/controlled release fertilizers and expensive ones. Plants do not know the difference or care how much, what colour the bag is or where it came from. Small quantities applied little and often at greater frequency reduces leaching potential. There are a lot of site specifics as to fertilizer appliction such as soil type, grass species, weather, microclimate, sport played etc so what might work for one may not work for another.
When I look at the amount people spend on fertilizers it is erroneous and I am amazed at what is advised by some of these fertilizer companies in regards to supplying nutrient to turf and followed by some gullable turf managers. It all comes with some research and knowlege on plants, soils and their overall dynamic systems. For those that are interested, I have done several trials and research on foliars, liquid fertilizers, slow/controlled release V straight release, agricultural V Amenity etc and the results are there for all to to see.
As for disease, this is a very general question and good information abounds.

Hello Gerald,
How long have the Fibre sand and Desso pitches been established?
What current maintenance do you carry out?
Cheers

Come on Lee, its AA, wouldnt expect anything less than an all encompassing piece, least I understood this one lol...
To add to others, it is all dependant on so many things, age, the location, weather/local climate, cutting heights/boxed off/let fly and frequency, usage etc etc..
Little and often or slow release will better provde nutrient when the grass is growing and needing it, rather than calender timed applications and burst of growth let the grass tell you when its hungry, backed by soil testing if you need...
Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!
