Message Board - Football: Box Goal, Webbing Straps
1 Sep 2010 by Greenfingers
Our football club have the professional type box goals with the net supports behind and the nets are supported by webbing straps.
They are under tension for longer than 90 minutes and they do break pretty regularly.
Can any Pitchcare members reccommend where I can buy strong ones so that we do not have the problem of a striker hitting the back of the net and the webbing strap breaks?
TIA

Mr G, would a normal tie down strap as used on lorries/trailers not suffice, strong, readily available and economical if you hunt around, saw a smaller size in Brandon Hire today funny enough which would do the job I think, not too bulky like the standard size, better than a flimsy small one.

Cheers Barry
I was thinking of alternative straps, the originals come with a loop to put the clip through (not sure of the name of clip), possibly similar to climbers use.
Premier football clubs play at home maybe once every ten days and can totally take the tension off the webbing straps, lower down the leagues, no chance:)

I have just replaced all the straps on 2 sets of box goals. (old ones have lasted about 6/7 years)
I tension the straps when the pitches come into play in September and undo them when the pitch is renovated in April.
Mark Harrod supplied the new straps - http://www.markharrod.com/Football/Goal-spares-and-accessories/Goal-Spares/FOT-096B-Spare-Rachet-Strap/flypage.tpl.html

Thanks for the link Sip, oddly enough they are the very same ones that I have not had much success with. :)

In the end I bought some Ratchet straps on Ebay, I have not used the ratchet itself just the straps with hooks.
They are heavy duty and didn't cost as much as the usual ones, time will tell if they last longer, but they do look the part.
Also I have moved the ratchets further up the support post, meaning less strap, less to break. :)
