Message Board - Football: How many times to mark out
1 Sep 2010 by EdN
Im learning the trade and was just wondering how many times everyone would mark out each week when you have 2-3 games per week? At the club we try to maintain professional standards and the directors want the lines thick dense, bright and white for every game (2-3 per week). We have a fleet combi spray marker. What ratio would you all mark out at to get them this way and would you single dose (go one way) or double dose (go over each line twice one way then the other).
Many thanks

Trial and error.
Much will depend on what type of paint, the length and density of your grass, the cutting frequency, the speed that you walk when you mark, climatic conditions, the dilution rates etc... the variables are endless. It is impossible to set a 'benchmark' standard given the amount of variables, so it really is best to try different things until you find your desired results.

What Mike's saying is that you mark out as and when needed.
Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Agree totally with Mike though as you are using a spray line marker it shouldn't be necessary to mark out both ways as it sprays the paint into the top of the grass. Marking both ways is generally done if you are using a transfer wheel as the wheel will coat the grass on one side of the grass blade as it rolls it flat . so both ways with a transfer wheel will give you better line consistancy.

I always do my boundary line both ways, I use a transfer wheel model (its about 50 years old and still going
) the results are usually very good. I haven't got a lot of time for the spray types.

Twice a week should cover you for midweek games. If using Fleet paint, 5 to 1 should be ok. Use red nozzle in sprayer. Good to go...

Depending on what paint you using in combi, we use pitchmarker super c in combi 4-1, blue nozzel 03F110, pitch gets cut 2/3 times a week. Marked out once a week and produces strong white line. As a bove trail & error.
Thinking of trying a cone nozzle This autum/winter?
Grow in grace...........
