Message Board - Other Sports: Pitchcare.com claimed 'membership'

Pitchcare.com claimed 'membership'

So Pitchcare claims to have over 6000 members! Leave it out! I just don't believe it, Mr Saltman. If it's true, prove it. No independent auditing of the site is there? Can claim whatever number you like. Where are all these members? How come when I log on, no one else is in the chat room? Also, there's no content to speak of on this site. One issue of The Groundsman's got more in it than the whole Pitchcare site. What a waste of time!

Response

Hi 'Dom', I'm saddened by your message - negative messages are a rare I'm pleased to say. As PR Exec for Pitchcare, I'd like to respond. No, we're not ABC audited, but our membership is genuine and we like to be as open about this as possible by showing the membership total and the name of the most recent member on the member's home page. We currently have members in 67 countries worldwide. Other industry titles have reported circulation of around 6,000 are only have UK readership, so why question ours?

We've received fantastic support and encouragement from so many people in the industry - students, groundsmen and greenkeepers at all levels, companies big and small and I believe that the work we're doing, like the football survey, to raise the profile of groundsmen and greenkeepers in all disciplines and at all levels, is evidence that we're not just a 'good read', but that Pitchcare's here to push the industry forward and to make things happen.
I'm sure many of our members read The Groundsman. We're not here to compete - surely we're all working towards the same things aren't we?

Dom, we really appreciate people taking time out to give us feedback and I'm sorry Pitchcare's not for you - but we're here to provide a service to our members and the vast majority say that they like what they see and support us in our efforts.

membership or sour grapes?????????

sounds like someone's upset!!!!
its taken some time but at last the iog speak-they must be really shaky now if they have to resort to blatant slagging of this free site that has helped me and no doubt countless others, i think that there are hundreds of thousands more members who will join pitchcare.com as soon as they know its here and they get on the net.keep up the good work no one can touch what youre doing!!!!!!!!!

Dom your message is really great we all appreciate your comments. Can you do all of us a favour and wise up.

membership

I've been a member on pitchcare for probably 18 months and I have watched the membership continually rise, some days better than others, but none the less rising steadily. Most of what I read in the trade press is seen on pitchcare long in advance and the magazine provides 'from the mouth' interviews with groundsmen and greenkeepers that really mean something. I haven't been in the chat room myself for a while, but I have been on some of the forums and found them to be very interesting. All I can say is that Pitchcare is obviously hitting at the heart of Dom and will grow from strength to strength. You have my support and no doubt many, many others for providing the means to meet others that often woirk so close by, but may as well be a million miles away, keep up the excellent work. Peter

Critique

Perhaps you'd like to disclose yourself Dom and let the imaginary members of pitchcare see who you are-what have you to lose?

I assume that the mighty mouth of the iog has finally spoken-fantastic ridicule.
If that's the best you have to offer Dom, then retire back to the little hole from which you came. As Anne Robinson would say 'GOODBYE'.

Pitchcare site

I would like to congratulate the Editor and Staff on their excellent site.

It is full of good content including the interesting and useful articles by the Pitchcare Team. There is the excellent Message Board which brings us into the real world of Groundsmen/women where most of us have been at one time or another, under equipped, under staffed, under pressure probably under paid and still manage to do a reasonable job.

Various journals carry a lot of good information regarding grounds maintenance but for the under resourced groundsman/woman who face an unexpected problem on any given morning, the article regarding the latest technology used in up-grading the worlds greatest sporting facilities is unlikely to help. What will be of benefit to him/her is the Message Board on the Pitchcare site that will link them to a vast number of people - from the part time Groundsman to the Professional who are willing to help if they can.

This site would have been invaluable to me at the start of my careeer!

Keep up the good work.

Support

I too would like to offer my support for such an excellent resource. To all intent and purposes, Pitchcare has put the IOG to shame and produced a valuable and enjoyable resource that I have perhaps long waited for. All credit to Dave Saltman and the Pitchcare team for starting such a courageous venture.

Clearly Dom has a vested interest elsewhere and shows that there is nothing but bitterness towards improving the interests of the Grounds Maintenance Industry. He epitomises all that is wrong within and we must stand together to give our support to all that Pitchcare and other new initiatives offer us for the future.

It saddens me that there are a few who won't accept change, not just here but in all walks of life, but rarely and fortunately do they last long.

Allow me to reiterate Michael's comments, Keep up all your good work, it is appreciated enormously.

Response from Dom

Dom.
Your posting was obviously worded to stimulate strong opinion and it has done so.
Were you just trying to stir it up or do you now have a sensible response to the reactions?

Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.

dom

why do we mock dom?

he may have a point....whilst the internet is a useful tool he does have one advantage over the whole worldwide web himself-HES A COMPLETE TOOL.

does dom really stand for domination-something pitchcare has over its rivals, or can he just not spell dunce,d!ck or dosser?

Members

This makes me mad, and just about sums up the current status of groundsmanship.

No members! what planet are you on dom?
Have you not watched the rise of Pitchcare for the last two years.

Have you not seen the work that they have done in bringing people together on a site dedicated just to groundsmanship?

The IOG have maintained for years that there aims are to raise the profile of groundsman and the standards of Groundsmanship.

The Pitchcare team have pushed our profession forward quicker than anyone else in a blink of an eye and have done just what the IOG have procrastinated about for so long.

Time to put up or shut up dom!

Message to the Pitchcare team, thanks for your invaluable service that allows me and others to give and gain help, advice and appreciation from my fellow colleagues. People like dom should be ignored, for they are ignorant of progress.

complaint

I only have one complaint about the site and that is, it wasn't around earlier.
Keep up the good work pitchcare and as you can see from the response this person is in a minority of so far... one.

I intend to live forever, so far so good...

4 Nov 2003 by Dom

Pitchcare's alleged members

Now that I've seen the responses to my message, I really don't believe that half, if not most of the people who allegedly post these messages, actually exist. Are Pitchcare 'members' really going to get that uptight because someone queries whether the supposed 6000-plus subscribers are real. Come on! This is a farce! I go back to my original statement: Pitchcare, prove it! If you aren't independently audited, why not? What do you have to hide? Could be time for the advertisers to be asking questions. The advertisers do pay to be on the site, don't they? Don't they?

4 Nov 2003 by draper

tool

yes the advertisers do pay i am sure, and so would the majority of the so called members that dont exist-around 2000 more than the 10G, or should that be doms employers?

yours,

ps, can we have an independent audit to see if you are real, after all the site cant be that bad-you are a member after all-A BLOODY BIG MEMBER AT THAT!!!

Pitchcare membership

Yes advertisers do pay to go on the Pitchcare website - and get a very good response.
Incidentally our posting on the home page offering maintenance booklets to Pitchcare members brought an excellent response - all supplying their names and addresses. So there does seem to be someone out there!

Negative IQ

Dom - you've proven that Negative IQ does exist. You must be very proud! ! !

As an "Imaginary Member" I would like to thank all the other "imaginary members", and the staff and everyone as Pitchcare, for their "imaginary information, advice and support" during the months that I've been on here. As a lowly H&S/ BestValue Officer trying to support our grounds staff, I really rely on Pitchcare for info, etc. and your support is genuinely gratefully received!!

Let's not waste any more time on poor deluded fools liek Dom... there's far more important things to organise...

Pitchcare Membership

In the short time we have been involved with Pitchcare (less than a month), we have already received nearly two hundred leads and have sold some machinery to a top premiership club.

Pitchcare

Pitchcare is very much a part of our overall marketing strategy. Since our involvement with the company, the online sales of our products have increased dramatically. As far as we are concerned Pitchcare is the only internet magazine with access to a credible number of our target audience i.e groundsmen and greenkeepers.

Pitchcare membership

We at GSB Loams are delighted with the responses we have had since advertising on Pitchcare.com

The site gives a genuine platform for Grounds Professionals to air their views and responses whether they are right or wrong, at least they have a voice here that can be heard by everyone.

Should Dom be questioning the numbers subscribed to Pitchcare? If he's so dubious about official numbers maybe he can audit exactly how many visitors go to Saltex with 'more visitors than last year' again!

Keep up the good work Dave, John and the team, you know you have the overwhelming support of the industry behind you.

The light at the end of the tunnel is not a train

6 Nov 2003 by numbers

???

with saltex bringing in more numbers each year, does it take into account someone like myself who went in on two different days-i presume i counted as two just to get the numbers up.....who is auditing this one then?

6 Nov 2003 by JP

saltex

I'm not that bothered about numbers at saltex, in fact if there's less people there it allows me to get round to see more stands. the trouble is there are fewer and fewer companies that represent turf maintenance at the show at all and i have to walk miles to see whos still there and i actually couldnt find some of them this year because i got mixed up on the aisles-confusing to say the least-roll on harrogate, everything under one roofand i cant get lost

Advertising with Pitchcare

We used Pitchare recently to advertise our forthcoming conference. This was our first venture into the world of internet marketing, and we were delighted with the response. It far exceeded our expectations. We even had bookings from as far afield as the USA and the Czech Republic.

I'm back!!!

Glad to see that Mr Saltman and crew have been so desperately defending themselves since the last posting - and I've made it on to the Pitchcare newsletter! They really are worried - tee-hee! (Okay, Dave, when do we tell everyone that this is all a wind-up just to persuade the advertisers that we really do have some members.) I really do think we need to get some audited figures...people are starting to suspect. What about it?
