SAND PITCHES

This is a very general question.

The main difference or classification of sports pitches is determined by design, construction materials artificial or natural and particle size specification of material used.

However the main difference between a 'sand' pitch and a fibresand pitch are artificial stabilizing elements within the upper rootzone area.

Although very few sports pitches are absolute pure sand. Fibresand rootzone material is not 100% sand and 'pure' sand pitches often incorporate peat or organic matter blends together with the naturally occuring organic matter which can take several forms depending on the situation and maintenance.

A fibresand pitch should remain reasonably level and stable in the event grass canopy cover is lost.

Depending on specification and a number of other factors such as root binding a pure sand pitch may not offer good stability if grass cover is lost although this is not always the case.

I intend to live forever, so far so good...
