A directory of groundsmen

My question is very simple really. Where or how can I get a list of football, rugby and/or cricket pitch groundsmen?

I am trying to contact groundsmen in a specific area to get a better understanding and knowledge of what techniques they employ throughout the year, especially concerning aeration and drainage. The ultimate aim is to be able to talk to them and pick their brains.

At the moment I am having to thumb through pages in the regional football club directory but all I ever speak to are secretaries of clubs and they don't know who the groundsmen are. I need to contact groundsmen direct.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Contacting Groundsman

1. Call in at local facilities.
2. Say what locality you are with your e-mail address and invite grounsman to make contact.
3. I'm almost scared to mention it, but check with the Institute of Groundsmanship for the area branch contact and ask his advice.

DUCK; anti IoG brigade have me in their sights!

Graham. what county do you live in?
I live in worcestershire and we have a cricket groundsman association that meet each month. Most countys have there own association. Ring the local county cricket ground and speck to the head groundsman, he will tell you if your county has an association or not.

Your message

Thank you for all your replies. I am now getting somewhere thanks to you all.

I am in Gloucestershire and really want to tap the local groundsmen first admittedly. However, contacting people such as yourselves is also helpful to develop a nationwide feel for what goes on.

If I contact the IOG am I going to be asked merely to subscribe to them and then read The Groundsman? I need the info to be more site specific than that in just a general magazine article.
As is often said, no two situations are alike.

Thank you for your help in the meantime.
